The British Universities championship, I have never competed in martial arts before so it is completely new to me.

Hopefully the other people on my team will stop me from doing anything too stupid.

I have been doing it 5 months and there are lots of good dan grade judokas in my weight class and some international teams.

I'll update with how it goes.

:)

lol, well.....................it was my first tournament ever and have never even done a grading and was fighting all dan grades.................that said, I lost all 4 matches I fought, it was very different to training and in my first fight I must admit the whole situation over-awed me a bit, last 3 guys just managed to counter my attempts and a bad refereeing descision cost me one match, I think If I fought the same 4 guys tommorow I would beat 3 of them (one was an international guy), but overall a very good experience................

..............it was a team competition (teams of 6) and my team got to the quarter finals so we did quite well against very good opposition

Well its good to hear you got some fights anyway. Remember win or lose, a competition is worth 10 lessions in the Dojo. Considering you haven't graded yet you done well entering the competition. But your team should probably have advised you against competing in the open class. Next time try the lower kyu's.

bro at least you got in there and did it .i use to do bjj i could wreck guys in the gym but it seemed every time we went to a tournament i'd get beat buy some guy that couldn't carry my gymbag i think the crowd messes with alot of people at least it does for me

Best advice for you- taking that i also do judo, since your starting off, the best hope is to counter their attacks. Otherwise its very simple for them to counter you since your movements arent "natural" yet. Good luck though, sounds like your facing not shabby guys.
