Hey Spatts, good to hear the shirt is in. I am not sure when I'll be makin it back to KC next. When I do, I'll let you know so we can get some shirt work in. I only have 4 or 5 weeks of school left, so there is a chance I won't be home before that. Let me know how it goes with the shirt until then. I'll keep in touch.

No problem, just keep me posted. Will you be training with us over the summer ?!!??! :D

Argent...closed. And this is a confusing one for me. As you might recall, I'm still working on bringing my shoulders up from injury. So Karin and I agreed that I still needed the shoulder support; however, I bench REALLY, REALLY low...so the tension on it seems too high. I may end up cutting it.

Spatts, I think that'd be great if we could train together this summer. And as far as your shirt, it seems to me that people that bench real low to their stomachs might do better with an open back. I could be wrong though. I'll talk to you soon.

dg12, you're right... I shold go open back and low for the way I bench, but the decision at the time was whether or not the shoulder safety was more important than the shirt position. Irish told me to cut it. :)

Argent, it's tight right across my chest, which is about 6 inches above where I bench.

Spatts,

Have you got any weight to touch in it yet?

PS I have outgrown the Inzer DD that Hannibal gave me, so if Project wants it, or if Hannibal wants it back, just let me know. I'm using Animalmass's old Inzer now (got 390 Monday). When I get our website up, I'll post pictures of what happened to my skin following my last use of Hannibal's DD. You'll laugh... or cry.

I got the shirt on, and that was good enough. I had to get it off. DG21 is coming up tomorrow night to do a ME Bench day with us, and I will give it a whirl then.

I hope to come back with some good news. I don't see HOW 300 is going to touch in it. It's SO tight.

Hmm,
After talking to Animalmass today, I think I might keep the shirt if that's cool. We're playing a game from now on called, "How tight can I get my shirt". He hit 455 in Hannibal's old shirt.... freaky. We're about the same size now, but apparently it's possible to get the weight to touch, so I'm gonna keep working in it.

You can get the weight to touch. It might hurt like hell, but I'm sure you can do it.

Yeah, today was a good day as far as learning the shirts go. Animalmass and I were discussing how many lifters are getting a lot out of their bench shirts. He thought we should try to fit into some smaller shirts and see how things went. We both wore shirts that were made for guys about 30lbs lighter than us, and tighter than hell. We had to really fight the tension of the shirts, but both of us got weights to touch we didn't think would. After doing this I felt a serious blast from the shirt, much more than I have ever felt before. Experiencing this made me realize to maximize a denim, you have to be aggresive with the shirt and really learn to take the bar through some major tension. This is hard for sure and I know I still have a lot of practicing to do until I master this.

It is safe to say that my single ply poly Titan Fury is MUCH tighter than this new DD. I can hit 300 pounds on a 2 board in my fury with no problem, and it takes 250 to drop in the Fury. This DD went down easy with less weight than 250, and I think I stalled at about 285 (missed).

Hm....

It's still closed in the back. Perhaps I'd be singing a different tune if I cut it.

SPATTS CUT THE SHIRT WOMEN! lol It is night and day when cut, it will drop the collar down lowering the chest of the shirt giving a tighter rebound because the collar will shoulder more weight and making things tighter. It also helps keep your elbows in, that used to be my big problem until I cut a shirt- then my elbows stayed close without even trying.

Plus, if you cut the shirt and wear it low enough it will give you boobs (or at least the appearance of some cleavage.)

Chris and I were talking today that we really need to come up and do some shirt work with you guys.

In all honesty, I really believe I have this shirt thing down. I know I'm not the best bencher bencher in the world, but I get a ton out of my shirt - I've just learned how to use it properly. And while I won't make clains like Metal militia guys do in saying that you will set a PR the first time I teach you how to use it, I can guarantee that once you learn how, it won't be long before your max jumps 50lbs.

I'll let Chris and Dave speak for what I've taught them about shirt use. They no doubt have gotten a ton stringer, but I hope they'd tell you that some of the stuff I have taught them about using the shirt has helped a bunch.

I tried the shirt again tonight for ME bench day. I couldn't move shit it in it, and threw it on the floor.

I put on my titan, and BAM, weight pops right up.

I'm looking at the tension on the fury, and it's across my upper chest, arm pit to arm pit.

So I put the denim back on so that it's tight up high on the chest, arm pit to arm pit...same place as the fury.

Lo and behold...275 flies up off the 2 board just like the Fury.

So the shirt works, if I wear it high. If I wear it low, I can't do squat. Which doesn't make sense, because I bench really low, elbows in.

It is cut, and I can't do a damn thing with it low.

...well, I can drop the bar on myself from 3 inches up.

I just completely come out of groove and have no support. It fights against my natural bench plane, which is insanely low.

I put on a double denim radical cut (and cut back) Inzer tonight...tried like heck to get 385 to touch :(

Yeah...and it is big for me...lol. Cheese (at 250) got 225 to touch. It flew up off his chest after a pause like it was shot from a cannon.

i aint mule but, are you dropping it towards your face or on your belly? The low groove is perfect for denim, try touching light weights with the shirt high and as you go up in weight start pulling it down. The cut shirt should allow you to get the shirt lower but sometimes it puts the collar in an odd postion(if you got an open back from Karin the collar would be cut a little lower) . Are you wetting the shirt at all ?

I concur

No, not wetting the shirt.

The bar can fall forward or backwards, just depends on where the groove throws me when I get out of it. Generally toward me since I'm sloping that direction, but it's well below the level where I can "JM it back up."

well thats better than dumping it on your stomach. try wetting the seams and working with some lighter weights, don't "run away" from the support that the shirt gives you. Control the weight down (you know all the rows you've been doing) drive your elbows in to your lats on the decent, after you touch drive up and about the height of a 3 board let your elbow start to flare out. Or better yet, come to Naz and have Mule show you exactly what I'm talking about...I think we are having a training weekend sometime in July.

"...drive your elbows in to your lats on the decent." Thank you...every now and then someone says something that just clicks with me. Like when Bob asked me which muscles I lower myself with when squatting. I can use this one...

I sent you another email...we have 6, maybe 9 of us, that want to drive up for the June 14th seminar, but I need to know if you have room for us before I start working on the logisitics.

Yeah...Glens Falls. All I need is a go-ahead on the number in attendence, and I think we might all be able to make it. It would be me, hannibal, project, DG21, KG18, mjaym, and possibly a couple more. :)
