Goodmornings after squats. Good idea?

from zero

New member
As you may or may not know, I'm now training old school style, a la Cornholio. This has me squatting twice per week, Monday and Friday (Mon = 5x3, Fri = 5x5 with Monday's weight). Tonight I performed my squats, and decided to do a little "accessory work" with some light GMs. I had an incredible pump in my lumbars aftrwards. Will this be beneficial in my training?

I also might add that I regularly perform a couple bodyweight sets of reverse hypers before squatting and deadlifting. Ab work will also be done, but I haven't decided which day to throw it in on. Perhaps my off days. Or Wednesday (Deads, bench, rows).

Speaking from personal experience, I have had great gains in size and strength performing squats and GMs together.

Always perform squats first.

Excellent, thanks bro.

Do you think I should just put them after Friday's workout (the 5x5), or both?

From Zero,

I know that you are performing old school, so what does your current leg routine consist of?

Here's a rundown of the program:

Mon:
Overhead presses, 5x5
Squats, 5x3
SLDLs/RDLs, 1x20
Seated calf raises, 2x20

Wed:
barbell rows, 5x5
Bench, 5x5
Deads, 5x3 or 1x20
Seated calf raises, 2x20

Fri:
Shrugs, 5x5
Barbell curls, 5x5
Dips, 5x5
Squats, 5x5 (same weight as Mon.)

Man!!

Thats a totally solid routine!

This might give me an idea . . . .

Overall, the plan is strong and I can see why you are putting on the pounds.

How about your strength? Is it increasing?

I do squats first and then gm's, I am much stronger now at all parts of my lower body lifts due to core strength and hammy strength

i think it is fine, i personally would not go too heavy on the gm's after squatting though.

I agree. I'm doing them fairly light.

Swain, I only have just started this week, and am slowly easing my way into it. In a few weeks, I'll let you know how I'm still growing and getting stronger. :)

For the past few months these two exercises have been the basis of my leg workouts, although not always arranged that way.

At the moment I am doing squats followed by GMs, then lunges. All I need :)
