Good-tasting 'just add water' protein powder?

I'm running into problems with protein powder. I don't like milk and I'm lactose intolerant, but I don't really care for soy, rice or almond milk either since it's trying to mimic the taste of milk. I was drinking my Spirutein protein powder with calcium-fortified OJ, but the OJ has become too much for my acid reflux. So... I'm looking for a protein powder that actually tastes good and doesn't turn into slimy goo (like mine did) if you drink it with just water. Thanks!

edited to add that since I'm lactose intolerant I have to avoid protein powders with powdered milk or whey, apparently unless it's whey isolate -- not whey concentrate.

I drink the chocolate designer whey with water and I LOVE it, ever since I dropped the milk and started drinking it with water, it goes down a shitload easier.

Well, Myopex has dairy...but not much...but it is an MPR
If BLENDED with water...it rules.
Myoplex are hands down the best tasting MPR.

Tropical Variety packs, Choclate Lovers variety packs, Vanilla, Strawberries and Cream!!!!!!!!

For a PROTEIN shake (not MPR), Isopure, Isopure, Isopure!!!
Use water (I add 2oz of milk) and no BLENDING NECESSARY. Hardly even have to shake or stir it!! I believe it is practically lactose free. 2 scoops of this puppy packs 50 grams of protein ISOLATE. No concentrated whey!! I don't even use 2 full scoops. Cant process 50 grams at a time so it lasts longer...'cuz it is one of the more expensive protien shakes.

I like DIamond Nutrition it tased better than any other I have tried it puts EAS to shame when it comes to taste. Also the price is great I pay $23 for a 5 pound tub. only 1 gram of carbs per serving.

I used to use Optimum 5 pounder, which I liked a lot. I tried Cytowhey by Cyto sport and it tastes even better. I have tried Simply Whey (EAS) and Prolabs but those weren't as good.

I love Protizyme by Metabolic Nutrition...Vanilla rocks. Just add enough water about the same amount of Protein you use, and it's nice a thick like a shake. I put it in my Oatmeal and cottage cheese to sweeten them up.

I hate to tell you this bro, but Metabolic is another scam company out to screw the consumer. The company I work for had seperate lots of the protizyme and CGP (creatine glycerol phosphate) tested. The Protizyme had much more carbs and much less protein than label claims. The CGP had no glycerol phosphate, .003% of claimed ALA, and 60% of claimed monohydrate. Needless to say, we don't sell their products anymore.

I feel your pain, over the years I developed a severe allergy to whey. This really limits our choices.

Optimum 100% Egg Protein is choice #1-easily mixes in seconds with water even in a shaker, taste good. I add dextrose or maltodextrin depending on my needs.

Unfortunately consuming a lot of egg protein has it's draw backs...beanie and gas-x do not seem to help much.

Supplement with soy milk for a change as well.

Good luck.

I believe i have probably tried every protein on the market, but my favorite (as far as taste anyway) is muscle milk--chocolate....its soooo yummy. It taste so good, it seems like your cheating!!

The first protein shake I tried was Biotest's GROW! in classic vanilla. It's an MRP, 110 calories with 32 grams of protein. (off the top of my head) It's very thick when mixed with water, blends great with fruit (strawberries made for a great shake) and tastes pretty good. It did take me a little getting used to. The nutrition info's all on netrition here

I'm drinking Muscle Milk now, which like the other folks here I heartily recommend, but it seems to contain whey concentrate. GROW! doesn't, so it looks like that's your best bet. From my experience, that is.

These are the only two I've had experience with. Hope this post helps.

Champion Nutrition Vanilla is one of the best I have found when mixing with water...add a little sugar free jello if you want a different flavor

The best tasting I have tried are Mass Quantities 360 in vanilla or chocolate and Grow! by Biotest (I think theyre affiliated with Next Nutrition) in vanilla and chocolate. They're both pretty thin and sweet. Myoplex is good but its too thick fr my taste.

Diamond Nutrition, best tasting by FAR. That shit is so good, I have trouble believing its really a protein powder.

Iron teK

Iron teK makes a whey protein that is cheap and excellent tasting, in fact when you make it, be sure to grind up around 4 ice cubes with the water first to make a slush, then add a couple scoops of Iron Tek and there you have it , a thick rich milk shake that has 45 gm of protein, very low carbs and 1 gram of sugar.

Champion Nutrition Chocolate. This shit is so good I mix it in with a bowl of fiber one cereal and some soy milk in the morning. Makes it taste like cocoa puffs!

Its also very good as a shake with water, or water and soy milk. I add a little bit of malted milk and some nutmeg and maybe 1 or 2 pieces of ice. I look forward to drinking these because I do not eat much sweet stuff. No candy or anything
