Good-tasting 'just add water' protein powder?

I'm running into problems with protein powder. I don't like milk and I'm lactose intolerant, but I don't really care for soy, rice or almond milk either since it's trying to mimic the taste of milk. I was drinking my Spirutein protein powder with calcium-fortified OJ, but the OJ has become too much for my acid reflux. So... I'm looking for a protein powder that actually tastes good and doesn't turn into slimy goo (like mine did) if you drink it with just water. Thanks!

edited to add that since I'm lactose intolerant I have to avoid protein powders with powdered milk or whey, apparently unless it's whey isolate -- not whey concentrate.

I feel your pain, over the years I developed a severe allergy to whey. This really limits our choices.

Optimum 100% Egg Protein is choice #1-easily mixes in seconds with water even in a shaker, taste good. I add dextrose or maltodextrin depending on my needs.

Unfortunately consuming a lot of egg protein has it's draw backs...beanie and gas-x do not seem to help much.

Supplement with soy milk for a change as well.

Good luck.

I believe i have probably tried every protein on the market, but my favorite (as far as taste anyway) is muscle milk--chocolate....its soooo yummy. It taste so good, it seems like your cheating!!

The first protein shake I tried was Biotest's GROW! in classic vanilla. It's an MRP, 110 calories with 32 grams of protein. (off the top of my head) It's very thick when mixed with water, blends great with fruit (strawberries made for a great shake) and tastes pretty good. It did take me a little getting used to. The nutrition info's all on netrition here

I'm drinking Muscle Milk now, which like the other folks here I heartily recommend, but it seems to contain whey concentrate. GROW! doesn't, so it looks like that's your best bet. From my experience, that is.

These are the only two I've had experience with. Hope this post helps.

Champion Nutrition Vanilla is one of the best I have found when mixing with water...add a little sugar free jello if you want a different flavor
