Lemme know if ur online, I'll PM you my question if possible. Thanks :)

no :(....someone i know.....i need to check if the person is having a type IV hypersensitvity reaction to amlodipine (i think thats the one where you have something, have a mild allergic reaction to it, then the second time you have it you have a massive on). he just took the first pill today

he has bilateral swelling and redness at 6 o'clock to the orbits of his eyes, very small only, about 2-2.5cm in diameter t most, and no other symptoms. however im worried this could be classified as extremely mild angio-oedema and that his second dose would cause a massive allergic response and affect his airways. Hournals and the internet just say rash=bad....but i have t weigh this against him stopping his meds

he's on atenolol and simvistatin too but i dont think there will be an interaction for those....Its just more finding out what are the risks of him taking the second dose tommorow. problem is he's being very stubborn and wont listen

heya didnt see this, pm me if you like, though ill be honest, an older clinician would be better positioned to answer this well, so i would be calling a hospital and chatting to the guru in the pharmacy department. really i dont see many people who have shockingly bad sensitivities on a regular basis, and most of the people i work with advocate the "take the second dose, and if you feel an itch or any swelling in your throat, go to the emergency room straight away" approach...which isnt fantastic practice imo, but when youre overworked (and more importantly, just dont give a toss, you just wait for 5pm so that you go home) thats what gets done.

thanks anyway gd....he took the second dose, got mild angiooedema (just like i said he would) and then went to a doctor who took him off the pill (just like i said they would) and put him on an different class of drug (alpha blocker)

ahh well....at least it was only mild angiooedema :)

glad it worked out well for you ;) and you got to say "i told you so" ;)

i love saying "i told you so". its almost as good as sex, where some assmuncher just wont bloody listen and talks to you like youre 7 years old while they put their foot into a huge beartrap, and then you just sing "i told ja, i told ja, lala lalala ;) "

sometimes im pretty unpopular with people ;)
