Anyway, we're going to have some brief episodes of downtime, then a couple of longer outages (couple of hours, maybe?), followed by the site suddenly getting quite a bit more lively than it has been lately.

This is taking place over the next two days, maybe three.

A story for ya regarding moving electronics overseas..

so I work for a telecom company.. back in 1998 we sent this guy to Russia to do some work for us, we sent a bunch of stuff with him, laptop, different types of hardware for mobile communications, and also a position tracking device.

Well turns out the Russian government considered anyone with one such device a spy, and threw him in jail. He was in there for WEEKS! Get this, we paid the guy doubletime 24 hours a day for all the time he was in.. it was the least we could do really.

He still sued when he got out.

Turn them off, man. Turning off ads was one of the factors which kept me as Plat.

On your user-page, select "Edit Options". Right at the bottom is a check-box for the ads. Don't forget to save.

For the geeks, here's George's Festivus present to us all:

- We're now all Gigabit ethernet on the back end (web farm, content server, database)
- Triple the space for content
- New online backup server plus spare drives
- Two new web servers

The new web boxes are racked and will be coming online between the holidays. That should not require any further downtime. Each of them is roughly twice as powerful as our old ones, so we will enter 2006 with more than twice the webserving power we had.

There is a lot of other stuff going on but I don't want to steal George's thunder. Let's just say "World Conquest" for now.

Been a busy week. Hope the effort shows.
