Glute Ham Raise

When doing the glute ham raise, how many of you have to give yourself a little push at the bottom?? i dunno if its cause of weak hamstrings and what not, but at the bottom, i dont budge, so i have to give myself a little push off.

Also, these things kicked my hamstrings ass...they're reall y sore today...

and since i dont have a ghr machine, i just did it on the leg curl machine and used that and it worked fine.

Also, once i get stronger at these, could i use bands to add extra resistance to the movement?
 
Doing them on the leg curl machine is MUCH harder than an actual glute ham calf machine. Your knees don't move on the leg curl like they do on the regular machine either.

oh... well idont have a ghr , so i have to make do with what i do have... i still really feel it though, so i guess thats good
 
They are great for the hamstrings. After a while you may not need help getting up from the bottom, as you do not have that much mass to move.
 
Yeah, without the glute-ham bench the exercise is much harder. On the bench you can use your whole posterior chain which you cannot do without the bench so don't feel bad if you have to give yourself a push at the bottom. You need VERY strong hams to do a real glute-ham raise w/o the special bench.
 
The glute-ham machine is far superior to improvising. I have had to improvise in the past, and I can really tell the difference. Both in results and the fact that it is easier to come up from the bottom.
 
the calves do a lot of the work on a ghr, and it doesnt sound like you could push off your toes using a leg curl machine (unless i'm not thinking of it right?)

the first time i used a ghr i had a lot of trouble because i wast using my calves, but the next set was MUCH easier when i pushed my toes against the plate
