Not a big popular bodybuilding drug, not sure why. I suppose its only marginally as effective as insulin injects. Still, id like to know more myself...so someone chime in with any info. -DOC

Description

Glucophage, Mellitron is a brand name for metformin which is an oral hypoglycemic drug. Glucophage was made to be used to control adult onset diabetes. This drug is will increase the body's ability to transport glucose into the muscle cells much better by increasing insulin sensitivity. This substance will also inhibit the body's formation of sugar by the liver whereby lowering insulin secretion in the body. This substance is very similar to phenformin, that is also an oral hypoglycemic except that phenformin is considered the harsher of the two compounds.

Glucophage has been used as a bodybuilding drug. As far as bodybuilders are concerned, this product is used as an oral form of insulin. It will cause greater glycogen supercompensation during carb-ups as well as lowering blood glucose for those that are using the BodyOpus or Atkins diet to induce ketosis more easily.

Common side effects of Glucophage are a metallic taste in the mouth, nausea, and vomiting. Also abdominal discomfort, diarrhea, gas, headache, indigestion, weakness .

they help to manage type 2 diabetes
I am pretty sure it increases your bodies sensitivity to its own insulin . When it 1st came out they were trying to develope a pill to get diabetics from having to take shots everyday . I tried it back in 2001 and it just made me feel crappy but to be honest I really didn't know the right way to use it ...

big surprise :artist:
I was surprised and disappointed.
I had read about it in the old Muscle Media 2000 magazine, so I was exicted when I found a legit source from Greece for it.
It wasn't long after that Bill Phillips turned into just another supplement whore.

The doctor told me that I may have to start taking it indefinitely. It all started with GH. I wouldn't go near it now...Anyway, I haven't got an axe to grind :)

From what I understand it is only effective in the presence of endogenous insulin, so you should take it with or slightly after a meal. I've heard of it causing muscle soreness in some due to the potential for lactic acidosis. So you would want to stay away if you had stressed out kidneys would want to avoid it.

A suggested regime is 3 x 500mg / day for, maybe, three-weeks, so that you're not fucking with your own blood sugar for too long. Some are using it with creatine post-cycle.

In theory, it's worth consideration if you're conscious of the dangers of insulin.
