what's your opinion on monsanto, if any?

Mosanto? as a chemical company that have one product in the chemical line that had no competition of years, it had already paid of all it's R&D and was in the black before it ever got clearance for US sales, Roundup (glyphosate). It has litterally made them bilions. Their biggest contribution to agriculture in the last few years was in the seed business, they now have "Roundup ready" corn, soybeans and cotton. It decreased the need for other herbicide chemicals as you can spray Roundup over the top of them taking care of 90% of the weeds. The seed expensive, but seems to be worth it. The problem is that after this many years, some weeds are showng resistance to Roundup. The company as a whole is pretty decent in it's pricing and customer service. I'm not sure what you wanted to hear as far as your question.

IMO, Bayer, the same company that makes the aspirin, has positioned it's self as the company to watch. They have some excellent products and are penetrating the lawn& garden industry, pest control and the ag industry.
