When I switched to Directv they made me agree to a 2 year service contract, which is okay I guess.

I served my 2 years. Now my receiver is outdated and I'm upgrading to a new receiver with DVR.

They are telling me I have to agree to another 2 years! Simply for upgrading a receiver! This is ridiculously stupid.

Anybody think so also? Anybody had luck getting out of such a dumb contract? I hate companies who do this.

buy the receiver from them instead of basically renting it. I think the dvr ones are about 300.00 (i'm not sure tho) You wont have to sign a contract. If you plan on using directv for another two years tho why not?

You're not in a contact until you accept the new receiver. So what exactly are you wanting to get out of?

Like Cindy say - but the receiver on your own. Go to ebay or other sources, pay cash - no contract.

I did buy it....$200, although it was thru them.

I probably will remain with them for 2 more years and more. It's just the principal of them forcing me to extend my contract for such a small "upgrade"

Dang shady companies.

I use to have comcast. They are very expensive. They sure aren't worth my money. Their service is poor also. Just go look at comcast's website...half the crap doesn't even work correctly. They can't even maintain a decent website, that says a lot about the company.

Yes it is stupid..Same way with Verizon wireless..u want to upgrade and buy a new phone you end up with another contract.
that is how they reel people in and make money off of them. IMO I think all contracts are stupid.

ask to talk to the customer service manager. . .tell him/her that you are considering switching to another provider. . .see what they'll do. . .if they're in a marketing mode you're in like flynn. . .

my tech guy always gets me free extended warranties from dell, etc. and he always gets me out of having to sign any type of contract with anyone (cell phone, etc.). . .sometimes he even manages to get the customer service chick's phone number. . .he's gooooooddd. . .

They might give you a free weekend of skinemax and hotime if you upgrade, so in that case it could be worth it.
