Getting bigger neck problems increasing!

tommboy

New member
I have chronic neck problems, that permits me to not have good mobility of my neck. Recently I have gotten a lot bigger and my neck feels stiffer +more sore all day now I think because it is haveing trouble holding up the new weight I have put on. I recently have been putting a hot been bag on it and then doing some stretching but wondering if I should start to do some neck exercises to increase my necks size / strength. Also trying to make my posture better any tips aprreciated anyone else have a history of a weak neck?

I am gonna bump this for you because while I do not have chronic issues with my neck or back I have noticed a dull soreness at the base of my neck that while not painful, is more of a distraction than anything. I think it is from my increased weights but hopefully you willg et some help. Good luck bro.

With a history of neck problems, you'll probably have to go slow, experiment a bit and see what promotes growth without added irritation.

Here is what I do:
I hit the back of the neck, right side, left side and front in that order by taking postions on a bench and moving the head towards the ground and then up.
(1) Simply kneel on bench and drop chin down ... then up. 10 slow reps right, left middle. The head weighs a lot.
(2) Lay on right side, drop head and then back up ... 3 X 10
(3) Same in left side ... 3 X 10
(4) Finally lay flat with head off edge ... drop head back and then up...slow. 3 x 10

Youve hit from every angle and at least toned all the muscles.

Now ... if no pain or irritation, add some weight. Right now I'm using a 50 lb plate on my forehead for #4. My neck is at 18" with no flab under the chin. (I'm 61.)

you could bolt some bars into a motorcycle helmet, stack some weights on em and do neck presses like that one guy did in that video

you probably shouldn't though :)

Go see a Chiropractor and see what he says. He may do an alignment and give you some exercises/ stretching to do under a hot shower.

tommboy, i had neck problems from BJJ. I swore I'd never use a chiropractor. But, I was referred to a good one and now I swear by him. The good thing is that he is an athelete also.

I used him for about six months and now I feel alot better. I only go one every month or so for maintenance. He showed me stretching exercises and he had a lot of good insight into sport related injuries.

In my opinion well worth the time and money
