Maybe this should be in the science forum..But seeings how not many people go there I will ask it here.Samoth if you want to move it feel free..Just to let you know I am doing human biology type assignments so I will be asking a ton of ?'s..And I expect tons of answers
But yeah, What is homeostasis (I get this part) however how does homeostasis relate to hypERthermia (please note, not hypothermia)
KthanxBye

To maintain temperature homeostasis, the hypothalamus orchestrates a counterattack against heat loss via heat conservation and heat production. Heat conservation is achieved by peripheral vasoconstriction reducing heat conduction to the skin, and behavioral responses, such as the layering of warm clothing, to increase insulation. Heat production is accomplished by shivering, which can increase the normal basal metabolic rate by two to five times, and through nonshivering thermogenesis via increased levels of thyroxine and epinephrine. In a cold environment, homeostasis can be overwhelmed, heat production can cease, and the core body temperature can drop after only a few hours secondary to fatigue and glycogen depletion.

The heat-regulating mechanisms of the body eventually become overwhelmed and unable to effectively deal with the heat, and body temperature climbs uncontrollably.

Yes smurf, thank you hun...BUt how the fuck does it relate to hyperthermia??? I already handed in the assignment but I am just curious as to what others find. The professor told me that because all but only 1 question was not in the text book that I have great researching skills...But still, it was a bitch. I think I had a semi melt down trying to figure out all this shit

Regardless of extreme weather conditions, the healthy human body keeps a steady temperature of 98.6° F (37° C). In hot weather, or during vigorous activity, the body perspires. As this perspiration evaporates from the skin, the body is cooled. If challenged by long periods of intense heat, the body may lose its ability to respond efficiently. When this occurs, a person can experience hyperthermia

there's your answer.

you're lucky I'm so smart./

fuck yes.

i didnt even know the exact definition of homeostasis when i first read her post, but it took me all of 3 minutes to find her the answer.

Damn this drink is good.

Hats off to you Angel for going back to school!

*thunderous applause*

Oh by the way.... Did I mention yet how FREAKING COOL that is?

Umm... I'm assuming he's looking for a specific answer? I wouldn't know how to answer the question as it it given here. Wait, is this, like, and essay thing, or one sentence answer thing?

Pdaddy went for nursing, he might know better what you're looking for.

Have I mentioned how much, just how much I love you?
Can you pm me your number for any more ? on the upcoming article that I have to do?
Lol...I am really good at science, in fact only class in school that I manage all A's in. However I had a rough time with this last assignment. I passed and got an "excellent outcome" however it was not excellent enough for me..

And the opposite applies to hypothermia, which is what the question didn't seem to want, so this wouldn't be the credited response, would it? Unless this is just getting the student to know the difference between hyper- and hypo-, in which case I'm looking into the question way too much and am going to shut up now.

No, we know the difference between hypo and hyper..However every site that I searched I could not get a clear enough answer. For some stupid reason I was getting answers based on animals, lol...
Mu professor is a meatball. I mean why require a book if the answers are not in it?!?! So I have "great researching skills" big F'n deal...give me case studies and articles on shit I know dang it.

Just adding to what I got now so that I can specialize in certain areas. I am eventually going to jump in full force and go R.N. However right now I have my 9 year old in 3rd grade, 4 year old in preschool, and 2 year old. I want to wait until the baby is going into 1st grade..Too hard for me trying to manage 3 kids, needto and school...I am looking into taking my Lpn and getting specialized in different areas, so I can have some type of background.

ok so this is an LPN program? Ive never been a nurse before but this should be fun! I've always been good at science and math

no, I have already become an lpn.Just trying to get some knowledge under my belt before the R.n program.

I heard that it is nothing but a bitch, and right now I am not ready for it. Just refreshing on some pre requisites so that I can be prepared for what is in store for me...
No one said it was gonna be easy, all med classes are a bitch, plenty of em too.So I take online classes because it is better and easier than getting a sitter, and well...NO, it is not easier!
