If it was one of the chains/strings the base housing that it comes out of should unscrew and allow you access to the switch attachment. Then just pick up a new string from the store and put it on.

dude, i picked up a 5 blade ceiling fan at Walmart last year for less than $40. how expensive of a damn ceiling fan are we talking about here?!
