Which "serious theologians"?? Radical Liberal theologians. It is obvious that God did not call down judgement upon Sodom and Gomorrah for rudeness to strangers.

None of it is "obvious"...that's the point. It is all 100% subjective...and scripture (or statistice, or lots of things) can be used to prove anything that you want...on multiple sides of a single issue...

One must first, however, be strong enough to set asside their prejudice and consider different viewpoints. Many people are, admittedly, too weak to be able to do that.

I'm not sure the last statement came across correctly. Are you saying that you think half of all men are gay.....and the other half are in denial? That is how it comes across.

Message recieved, I updated the post to be more clear.
No. I do not mean that "everybody is gay but in denial."

I mean that most straight men don't want to deal with the reality of how many of the men around them on a daily basis don't share their degree of straightness.

I disagree with much of th Bible, but I do not seek to change the text in order to back up my own choices.
I disagree with the Fundamentalist interpretations of how God feels about gays and gay behaviour, but I do not seek to change the words of the Bible to back me up in this.
**I see as much Bible-phobia as homophobia around here, and open-mindedness works both ways, even if your door doesn't swing both ways!

If people are going to use Science to prove the Bible is false,
then I have the right to use new scientific advances in language translation to prove it is true.
I'm not changing the Bible text. It was written in Greek!
Our Understanding of that Greek is what has changed.

Not bible-phobia - just taking exception to somebody's using something as sacred as the bible to justify their own hate and judgement. You should really consider your position and determine if it's truely a righteous path you're taking.

I wasn't accusing you, TNMuscleBear, just people in general. There is as much of a knee-jerk reaction against the Bible and CHristians as there is to gays.

I have examined my path and am able to reconcile my belief in the Bible with the fact that I don't think gay people are going to Hell.
