Gatorade Vs. Water

variation

New member
ok, now lots of people say drink water when training, some have told me not to drink gatorade, but have given little explanation as to why, now my thinking is that if you drink gatorade throughout workout, shouldn't that ensure glycogen levels being high throughout, therefore result in a better workout? so you can train very hard on each and every exercise? or is water a better choice?

gatorade is good for a quick boost of energy because its all sugar....i never drink it, i jus stick with water.

I start with water...then end with either GarorAde or Pedialyte.

I typically drink gatorade after a workout, but I will drink water throughout the day.

Gatorade is good stuff to use in a post workout.

Gatorade is designed to make you thirsty for MORE gatorade, lol. But that can be a benefit because people tend not to drink enough water. I imagine the sugar would also be good for post-workout energy & other stuff.

Exactly. If your electrolyte balance is not off, it doesn't help. Even if it does, you can get electrolytes without the added crap sugars.

pedialyte? ECH!

i tried it once. the grossest stuff i've ever put in my mouth

i drink about a liter of gatorade throughout w/o and then a liter of h2o after - as well as throughout the day - i hate feeling dehydrated

well thanks for all the replies, so I guess I might try drinking water mostly, and perhaps mid workout chug down a glass of gatorade, cause after that is usually when I start to feel I'm not putting out 100% .. then drink water for the rest and after, have my post workout shake.. sound good?

I used to drink gatorade when...I lifted then did kickboxing...then again the trainer I used to go to told me to...I have since realized he doesn't know shit.

gatorade is alright, its just a bit strong. basically any sports drink should be in the 7% sugar range, udually anything over that and you are putting your digestive system into overdrive instead of trickling sugars into your system. the added salts are necessary if you are sweating profusely. granted, you dont want to just drink gatorade, probably switching between the 2 throughout an event would be a better bet for optimal hydration and nutrient uptake. but diluted gatorade is definitely a plus if you are going to be doing something endurance related.

Yup, get some of the powder for Gatorade.

Its a lot cheaper since you'll be drinking a lot of it, and you can adjust the mixture so it isn't so sugary.

curious...how can you adjust the mixture on Gatorade? Isn't the sugar already added in the powder? The cannister doesn't call for additional sugar when mixing. Or did you mean just mixing it with extra water...diluting it?

Gatorade and protein powder is a great comination post-workout. 3 scoops of Gatorade (powder form) and 2-3 scoops of protein powder. Fits all the nutritional requirements of a post-workout meal, plus you can follow it up with plenty of solid food 1 hour or so later.

think he meant watering it down

yep, that's what I have is the gatorade powder stuff, I'm anxious to try it out wednesday on my workout, right now I'm getting over an unfortunate sickness, but I should be better by wednesday I hope, even though I said I was gonna rest today and not workout, I watched pumping iron again, and had to go test out some of my lifts ;x
