Fucking SQUATS

BOOEY

Banned
Someone explain the deal with squats. I warmed up the other day at 225, 10 reps. Feelin good. Up the weight to 275, 8 reps. No problem. 295. Never went beyond 295. 6 reps. Ok, felt pretty good, why not add 5 more pounds? - 300. 5 reps close to failure .... ok how the hell did I get 5 reps. Still feelin good so I add 5 pounds - 305, 5 reps near failure. What the fuck. Ok this must be my lucky day, why not add 10 more pounds, but this time I asked someone to spot me, just in case I die. 315, 5 reps!?! At this point I'm gettin' a little wiped, so I move on to leg presses. But what gets at me is I was able to do 315 @ 5 reps and 300 @ 5 reps both very close to failure. And they both felt heavy as shit when they were on my back. I mean, this never happens during dl's or bench. Tell me I'm not the only one this happens to .... I don't want to get to the point where I'm squatting 315 for 5 reps and 365 5 reps.....

Don't feel bad when I squat it all feels the same after 315, and anything over 10reps. Just consider yourself luck that you got 5 reps

for me everything over 5 feels heavy as fuck...

i used to not do 185, and then i did 215 twice, and now within about two weeks i think its been , i did 205 for 6 (coulda easily done 215 or more but i was scared...)

anyway, its probably mental like the other guy said...congrats on your PRS-

Do some box squats if you have a STURDY box...the one i used almost collapsed...

Fixes up your form a ton and helps a lot in the explosiveness department.

IT doesn't take much...some speed sets here or there can do wonders.

More than likely it is psychological. Many people have a hesitation when they put 3, 4, 5 45's a side.
However, quads are an extremely large muscle, so i would go up more than 5 or 10 pounds at a time. I am a firm believer that moving up to little is a sure way to never grow.
Good luck,

Well, I was hesitant to put more weight on b/c I didn't think I could get 315 up at all, let alone 5 reps. Call it a lack of confidence. Next week, I'm def gonna try to push the limits and see how far I can go.

have you ever done the math at how much you will go up if you move up 5 lbs. per week on squats for a year?

I am a firm believer that moving up too fast is a sure way to plateau quickly

As long as it is working...don't ask too many questions.

You "warmed up" with 225? That was it???

The day I squatted 800 I still took the bare bar, 135, etc...

Yeah...it was the first time I'd ever had more than 550 on the bar. They got me in a pair of squat briefs (loose), loose squat suit, and knee wraps and under a mono lift. Maybe someday I'll look to hit a big number again. I plan to squat over 600 raw on Sunday as my 2nd exercise.

it's the same for me when deadlifting, anything after a certain weight just feels heavy no matter what.

same deal here. every set feels HEAVY, no matter what the weight. i've been doing 5x5 for a few months, and it isn't usually until the 4th set that i feel good. i usually do 4 warm up sets, 12, 10, 8, then 5 reps, then jump into work sets. all sets feel just as heavy as the last.
