For those here around my age, (18-24), what do you pay for insurance for you to drive, minus what you pay for your car itself? Full coverage for me was quoted at 100+ a month not including the actual car...fucking shit, that is expensive, moreso than I had anticipated...but that is from my father's insurance company, I figure I can get it cheaper somewhere else...anyone have suggestions for good companies? I'm already going to check out Geiko...

Sorry bro... I'm 27 and mine is at 400 for the year. State Farm.

He he... I feel your pain but I still have four vehicles and, two full coverage and two with just liab. and I pay...drumbroll... $85.00 a month! Bwaugh! ha ha!!! Being 40 pays for something!

Actually
Insurance is determined by

Zone - Region of the country in which you live.
Car - Type of car and it's theft rating.
You - Age and Driving Record.

Zone includes states on pop. density, accidents per 1000 and theft of vehicles by make etc.

Well???? Am I going to hear about Progressive or not?

Why not do a google search, ya lazy whiner?

Progressive has been the subject of numerous lawsuits. They were notorious about five years ago for cancelling insurance with no notification -- or giving customers very little time to make payments. My itty bitty sports car was hit by a huge truck at 80 mph on teh freeway about five years ago, causing a huge accident (I was, weirdly, unhurt). When I contacted Progressive they announced they had cancelled my insurance for nonpayment. In fact, what they had done was continue to send my bills to a former address. I'd caught them in this twice before -- they'd even cancelled me and required me to pay reinstatement fees once -- but they continued to send the bill to the wrong address. Unfortunately, I had spent 3 weeks out of the country jsut before my accident and didn't catch them this time.

I took responsibility for this, had to get a lawyer and spend thousands of dollars. A year later, I learned there was a class action suit against the company for these kinds of INTENTIONAL practices.

When I graduated and bought a new car in 1999, I paid about $135/month or $1600 per year for it under my parent's insurance. I moved out 6 months after and got my own insurance then at age 23 for $1400/year. Now, I just turned 26 and I have my own house, so I pay $76/month or $915/year. BTW, my car is a 1999 Pontiac TransAm. I have nothing on my record so that helps along with grades. After I bought my house, that really helped as well, especially since I was 25 already.

In the midwest, Country Insurance is very fair on prices, especially high performance vehicles and boats. Right now, I'm with State Farm for the $915/year on my Trans Am.

Frack, That's the way it is because you are still young, and in that age group, you get screwed.

In defense of Progressive: I had a nasty accident in Baton Rouge LA. I lived in NY and I was kinda fucked. The Progressoive adjuster showed up on site, did his thing, and cut me a check. It was painless.

When I got quotes for my bike insurance it was all over the place. One company wanted $3800 a year! Progressive wanted $1900. I went with AllState at $388 a year. Shop around.
