This is an excerpt from todays Pravda:

The translation is rough but its readable

It is a real gift for Americans to learn that an oil deposit was found literally close by them. If this peace of information is confirmed, Washington could confidently declare it no long depend on oil slip-knot of the Arab world.
Real reserves of Atlantice oil deposit situated in Mexican Gulf are almost two times more than it was preliminarily appraised by experts. Such statement was made by BP company. According to BP director Dick Olver, data received as a result of additional boring, will made Atlantice a deposit of world level.
According to the results, oil reserves of Atlantice are equal to 575 million barrels against 300 million declared before. Taking into account the new results of geological survey, BP company approved additional financing of working of the deposit, while the extracting should start already in 2005. The part of BP company’s outlay is expected to exceed 1 billion dollars. The deposit of which 44 percent belong to BHP Billiton Australian company is situated approximately at a distance of 225 km southward from New Orleans, Dow Jones Newswires reports.

ahhh shit...the million is a translation error. That should say 575 Billion. If we consume 19mil barrels a day that one reserve will last us at the current pace until 2086. No more ME Oil. Plain and simple.

Thanks Bro

Good to hear. I'm tired of feeling raped after I fill my gas tank.

First ... the US has the cheapest gasoline in the world. Ask some of our British friends on the board how much it costs for a LITRE of petrol. Complain more about the amount our gas is taxed ... about 45 percent of the cost of a gallon of gas in the US is tax. As for the Pravda story, this is good news IF it's true. I'm not saying it's propaganda, but the Russian media -- even Pravda -- has a sketchy record on accuracy. Other Western media is light years ahead in this realm.

british? try dutch.

our petrol is like 1 dollar 2 cents a litre.

Cheap fuel is one of the big reasons why are economy is so robust. If you want higher unemployment and higher prices for EVERYTHING you buy, then let the government increase the taxes on fuel. Kyoto folks have yet to figure this simple concept out. Kyoto will drive fuel prices up and our economy down (Europeans want to punish us for our success vs. their's).

Well, for some people preserving their environment is more important than for others.
The global warming will be a big problem, an economical one ,too.
Look at the insurances, recently a spokesman of the Deutsche Rückversicherung complained about the increase of costs due to thunderstorms and floodings.

Ahh, global warming. I'm sorry, but there isn't one shred of verifiable evidence to support it. Remeber, we have data from a very limited time frame and much of it today is biased. How you ask? Readings taking in one spot in the 50s are now taken in the suburbs of a city or town instead of in a distant field. Heat islands like these are creating false increases in temperature. Core samples from the ocean floor and glaciers are also not as conclusive as they've been portrayed by the mainstream media. Computer models are so fraught with problems, that there isn't one that can be depended on to provide an accurate estimate of future weather patterns. Those of the past predicting our climate today have all been wrong so far.

Our climate is NOT stable. It changes from time to time. Usually when these changes occur, they occur rather rapidly. When we were just fashioning spears for the first time, was it our fault? Nope. Was it our fault when we wandered Africa as nothing more than another ape? Nope. Evidence is what I want and evidence is what there is not. In fact, when the data, the RAW data presented without opinions and in it's entirety, is reviewed by scientists not looking for something in particular beforehand, then it doesn't show warming. It shows human impact to be little to none so far.
