If the beating was so severe then why wasn't she injured? She got checked into a hospital, and reports say she was fine. If I punched a little kid in the head, there would be some damn serious damage. Thats why I think everything is getting blown WAY out of proportion. She wasn't hitting the kid hard at all.

And I'm pretty sure I saw the whole video, because it started from the time she got into the backseat, and went until she got out.

Question: Do you think that the fact that the blows "weren't that hard" as you state has any difference on the FUCKING MENTAL DAMAGE that she inflicted on this kid?! This kid is going to be scarred for life, bottom line! Ask yourself this: If you thought that you weren't even good enough for even your own Mother to care for & nurture, then I HIGHLY DOUBT that this kid will consider herself worthy of ANYONES love for the rest of her life. Every kid deserves a chance in life, but by the actions of her own Mother, she may have already been deprived of that chance because of the image that her Mother has instilled in her about herself(that she is bad, and doesnt deserve love, but rather abuse). If you are really serious and not just jerking people’s chains then I have to question your maturity and or moral fortitude. Since when did an argument for child abuse become, "well I have seen worse" that’s like saying I only crippled him in the robbery but its not bad because others have killed there intended victim.

BTW the reason this is getting so much attention is because it’s on tape, people can see the atrocity and therefore it takes on a life of its own.

I have seen first hand what child abuse does to these kids as my Grandmother was a foster parent for 30 years. Hell one of her kids came to her at 3 weeks old. He had a broken hip and arm and his mother has waited a week after hurting him to take him to the hospital. Needless to say staff infection set in and he lost his leg. Haz have you ever reached out to hug a little kid and have them flinch away in fear? What you are saying is just not right and you really need to rethink you position.

One other thing PUNCHING a child in the face or anywhere for that matter is wrong. Your decision to defend this woman because she didn't "Hurt" her child is ridicules at best. Do you have any idea how much emotional damage is done in a situation like that?

It tells me that her mom hit this girl and children are very resilient and can take a beating. Yeah and in the not so resent times people were cannibals in the South Pacific, what is the point to this. It was also accepted in our culture that blacks could be enslaved not that long ago. Just because something was okay in the past does not make it right now. I am Irish and I was not beat as a child and that was because my dad was not beat by his Irish parents. Okay, with your logic I can try and shoot someone but if I miss it is all good because everyone is “FINE”. What happens if someone plants a bomb on a plane and the bomb squad dismantles it, the FBI should not look for the culprit because everyone is “FINE”?

I think you guys are missing my point. I'm not trying to defend the mother. What she did was clearly wrong. However, the amount of media coverage this story was recieving, lead me to believe that she brutally beat her child to within an inch of her life. It really angered me that a parent would do such a thing. THen when I saw the video, I was like, "Is that it?". It wasn't anywhere near as bad as I thought it would be. Sure, the mother crossed the line, and deserves to be punished. But the story is hardly news worthy (especially on the national scale). Kids get hurt MUCH more then that every day, and we don't hear a thing about it.

It is also acceptable in the Irish Traveler clans to con the old, poor, and gullible of our society out of their money. That does not make it right. The fact that she admits to being one of them says a lot about the type of person that she is, or rather isn't.
