Musclemom - this is case where either I'm absolutely oblivious to everything or I absolutely have no understanding as to why I'm told I'm a problem child. He's definitely the asshole. He's the controlling type who is always in control and is always right. He told me I'm not what he'd hoped for and that he never thought the one thing he'd fail at in life was raising a good son.

That is a damn shame. I certainly hope you dont believe the things he is saying about you. He obviously has a screw loose if he is talking to his child in that way. He obviously has a problem. Himself.

I forced my daughter to make a choice, once. Either do as I said or leave. She did what I said. This is usually something every parent goes through during the rebellious years.
I think the difference is the demeaning comments that the old man made to Ceaser. No matter how angry or bitter I've been towards my daughter, I've never insulted her, or put her down. I've called her judgement into question, but never her intelligence (I think she'll actually be smarter than I, but that's not saying much).

thats true and you handled it appropriately like a good parent,my father was like ceasars and it took me standing up to him and damn near beating him to get his respect but now ive got it and shown i dont need him and we have a great respect for each other, but when he considered me a dependant i was just some punk kid with a mouth
