ford ranger

alrighty peeps. all the info i have read says the ford ranger is a sturdy truck. except for transmission problems which seem to dog some owners. but those are just for the manual, don't think it applies to the automatic.

www.carsurvey.org has alot of owners of 1987, 1988 models who got 200k miles on theirs.

my question is, would it be better to get a later model with less miles or a newer model with more?

i can get a 90 with 30k miles for the same price a 94 with 80k miles costs. which is the better deal? considering that hitting 150k miles on a ranger is almost normal (from the owner reviews i have read), i think the newer model is better as i only drive 10k miles a year.

any ideas?

I'd go for older w/less miles... They harldy look any different..

If you buying the truck for reliability, than it only makes sense to buy the one that has been used less..

my concern, however, is that an 88 will fall apart soon. its already 13 years old, i don't know if i can get 5 more years out of it. and, rangers are supposedly durable so an 80k mile 94-95 should last until 140k with few problems. i guess i'll go with the newer one. i think it can handle 50-60k more miles.

Why don't you buy like an almost new one?? Bse model rangers brand new are only like 9k or something.. If you get like a 2000 with like 20k on if for $6000. That would be cool? no?

Consider what kind of miles were put on. 30K street miles are tougher that 50k highway miles, plus the 50k highway miles makes the truck worth less money too.

just something to consider.

$6k is the base minimum blue book for a 1999 ranger with tons of miles. a base model 2000 with 20k miles goes for $9k blue book.

besides, i'd rather not get a base model. i want an extended cab (guess why, heh), a/c, an automatic transmission & a v6.

i need an extended cab because even 5' 6" people who weigh 160 have trouble fitting in the normal cab. i prefer a/c for long drives, automatic tranny because the manual gives problems to some ranger owners & a v6 in case i need to move anything & need the extra power.
