Its kind of freaky to see a dark completed person with a real bright vibrant tat.
Touch ups are easy and fast and cheap from a good tat dude.
I would do every couple of yrs if needed.

Yes you will think you will because it will be an open wound, a big scab will develop and will be sore (a bit) at night and you will want to baby it a bit.
But it will do no damage if on arms to curl and get all pumped up it will do very little harm and most artists have you come in a second time to re-touch in week or 2. It will itch don't' scratch.
The only thing I can say might be bad is if you have one done say inside of bicep and you job entails 10 hrs of constant picking up heavy boxes and will rub layers of skin and possibly in on occasions. So if your gonna be doing a lot of rubbing or abrasion within a few days of when done you may want to reschedule at time when your not gonna have to to let ink set in skin.
o and try not to let people touch it for a few weeks people tend to just reach out and touch em but its very un stearle as its an open wound to let germs get in. I wear a flannel shirt over it (no bandage) to keep tat clean and from airborne infections to viruses.
Did you know it takes almost a yr for a tattoo to fully heal.
