For real??

That's crazy. She is probably on steroids but still a woman that small that is out benching me is something I'd like to see in person. Maybe she could help me with my form.

Female muscle is every bit as strong as male muscle. They just have a harder time making the stuff.

If you look at weight classes in the olympic lifts there's a very high degree of similarity in what's lifted. I think that's one of the reasons why they don't have exactly the same weight classes between the genders.

That's an awesome total at that weight for anybody, male or female.

When I hear stuff like this I'm always reminded that scientists estimate an adult male gorilla can bench press around 3500-4000lbs (if you could get him to do it).

I wouldn't doubt those numbers...

No love for the gorilla?
I'm still finding that pre-bench picture erotic.

No room for gorillas and those BP #s are only estimated. Put up shut up, lift it or shift it. ;)

You guys should see that Steve Martin movie 'The Man with Two Brains' - he's looking for a body so he can transplant the brain of the woman he loves.

The doctor tells him the operation's only been done succesfully with a gorilla. He thinks about it for a couple seconds, then says 'Nah, I can't fuck a gorilla.'

BW: I've done estimated 315 bench press many times so don't hate.

Ya im sure there is some Var floating about in her bloodstream..but it could be genetics

If the insertion points of your muscles are a bit longer you get an amazing amount of more leverage and an even bigger increase of strength lb for lb. Everyone's muscle point of origin is the same but insertion points can vary from person to person

My point is the shirt helps a lot. I dont want to turn this into an anti powerlifting gear thread, but equipped lifts dont impress me as much as raw lifts(with the exception of using belts and wraps). I still bet she cant do 225 raw.

I'm 5'6 and 125lbsmaybe a little liter by a few pounds...... and i'm on the lean side myself...i think she is a bit heavier.. but regardless.. still good for her

I saw a Panda Bear get 275 over his head for a double and toss it away like a feather to get his sugarcane treat...

I believe that it was Amy Weisberger who benched 315+ at a body weight of 128 a couple of years ago. I think that she also surpassed a 500 pound deadlift that year as well.

her ass must be like a piece of steel...

and she's South Carolina!! reppin the SC! maybe if i was a few years older i'd be makin a trip to Moncks Corner this afternoon. Oh well.

tina reinhart benched 401.5 at a bw of 132

Jeez, WTF am I doing wrong. The only time I have seen someone press over 400 was a guy I worked with, who weighed over 260 and had about 10% bodyfat. Pretty sure he was jucied up nicely.

Someone want to explain to me how a woman who weighs 132 can do over 400 and guys who are 200+lbs. of muscle have a hard time with much less?? Does technique and the physical structure of your shoulders etc. have that much to do with it?? Just what is it that allows someone be stronger with MUCH less muscle mass??

equipment is a big part of it. Genetic freak+good training+hard work+gear+"gear"=ridiculous PL numbers. With a super tight shirt it's more or less a lockout from halfway up. I'm not saying it's not impressive, but it sure isn't comparable to raw either.

Just as an example on tues I was talking to a PL at my gym and he gets an extra 175 pounds from usinig equipment for his squat (425 to 600) :eek2:

Putting gear one doesn't mean that you can really do much more weight. Heck...when I put on a bench shirt I am weaker...haaaaa.

Adding a suit and full gear does make a big difference on the squat. Safety is the BIG difference. I've done a COMPLETELY raw 664 squat (no belt, no wraps, no spot...nada) and a few years ago I did an equipped 800 (pretty sure I can do more than that now).

basicly range of motion and leverage

So someone may be able to bench more then another person, even though the one with a lower bp may have more/stronger muscle mass?? I never really got into the world of powerlifting before and I am amazed how some people can be so small and so strong or so big and so weak.

yes

the shorter the range of motion, the more you can lift, since you you use less energy
the better the form to maximise leverage the more you can lift
tendon structure and neural effeciency also play a big part as well

strength in a specific lift also has a large skill component just like any activity

now if these women tried to do a seated medicine ball chest throw for distance, then I'd say the bigger and more muscular guys, but weaker in the bench press, would smoke them :)
