Flower Pressing

Night Fly

New member
I have some beautiful roses that I would like to press so that I don' t have to look at them dried up. I have never pressed flowers before and don't want to ruin them.

Anyone know how to correctly do it?

Hey.... gurlie - this AIN'T CHAT :p

But I feel ya on why it is here... tee-hee

Just put them between two sheets of wax paper and put them in a book and put a lot of wait on them.... leave undisturbed for several weeks.

Also, if they are not wilted you can put them in some sort of powdery something (Martha Stewart, help me out here!) so they are dried and preserved three dimensionally and you can leave them in a bouquette and put them in a vase or something... a small bouquette.

I WONDER who gave them to you

:D

I always hand my roses upside down and dry them. I just tie them up in the back of a closet-- then I can put them dry into a vase. For other flowers I'll press them just how BKM suggested....it's a great use of a heavy dictionary.

I have had good success just allowing them to dry naturally in their vase, remove the greenery and all the stuff that will make the water gunky, keep them from direct sunlight, and do not water, allow the water in the vase to naturally evaporate. The red ones will turn very dark almost black but they will do that if pressed as well, the pinks and other colors will be beautiful, though. You can also bind them together with a rubber band and hang upside down in a dark closet.

That is just it! I WANT HIM TO PULL HIS HEAD OUT ! Even if it is only long enough for him to find himself some :kitty: so he will leave me the (fill in the blank) ALONE!

....so back to the original question... do you think hanging him upsided down in the back of a dark closet would work? :D

BKM-- if he won't sit still enough to be hung upside down you could always just throw some tape over his mouth and cuff him to the clothes rod in the closet. Enless he's very flexible that would likely prevent the head up the ass.....

Thanks, BM. I know this isn't chat, but I didn't feel like posting this on the chat board where I would get a lot of smartass comments, you know? Plus....I wouldn't think many guys would know about flower pressing.

I will try the wax paper with the flowers.

Oh...and don't play dumb!!! You know who gave them to me!!! :D

I preserve my flowers by tying a string to the end of the stem........and hanging it upside down for a few weeks until they are completely dried out. Then I spray them with Glitter hairspray so they look all sprakly nice and put them back in a vase for a nice decorative display!

This may be a little late, but I was just reading a magazine and thought this might help a little. It says you can dry flowers with silica gel. Silica gel will help preserve color, shape and beauty. The gel is available in most hobby shops. To use, fill a container with an inch or two of the granules, then nestle flower stems, with petals up, in it. Gently sprinkle additional silica gel around flowers until covered. Top container with a lid and allow about one week for drying. Handled carefully, flowers dried with silica gel will not fade, wilt, or crumble for months. You can reuse the silica.

Hope it's not too late and this info will help!
