Wrong. It doesn't bind to test. It is good to do since it helps with cholesterol levels and numerous other things.

This information that posted on a thread that I had about flax...

I completely got rid of all my flax after reading those studies showing how it binds to testosterone. I have no idea whether or not if actually had an effect or not. (Libido's still strong as always )

Flax really doesn't have any DHA/EPA either:

One Tablespoon of Flax
Saturated Fat - 1.5 g
Monounsaturated Fat - 2.5 g
Polyunsaturated Fat - 9.5 g
Omega 3 - 7.5 g
EPA/DHA - 0.0 g
Omega 6 - 2.0 g

You're better off stickng with nuts, olive oil and fish oil in my opinion.

Also this.....

get some omega-3 fish oils... 9cals per gram of fat ya know

I use Ascenta NutraSea - Original (Lemon Flavour). not cheap but probably one of the best fats you can buy.

this is what theie info had to say...

The two omega-3 fatty acids required by the body are eicosapentaenoic acid (EPA) and docosahexaenoic acid (DHA). Oils from fatty fish are nature's best source of EPA and DHA. Comparatively, flax seed oil contains a high concentration of omega-3s but in a form called alpha-linolenic acid (ALA). For the body to use ALA it must first convert it to EPA and DHA. This conversion process is very inefficient and results in less than 10% of the ALA being converted to EPA and DHA.

hope this helps...

I take it every day. Tastes like ass but excellent source of Omega 3 fatty acids essential to your diet. Not to mention other benefits you will notice more moist skin especially in a dry climate like I live in and good for your hair not to mention an excellent aid in fighting dry eye if you should have that. Before my lasik surgery this helped my eyes tremendously while wearing contacts.

Lignans and Prostate Cancer
Testosterone is the male sex hormone, thought to be important in the progession of prostate cancer. Lignans in flax seed bind testosterone in the same manner as for estrogen (above). Researchers at Duke University found that supplementation with milled flax resulted in significant decreases in both total and free testosterone in prostate cancer patients. They also found a decrease in PSA levels in men with early stage prostate cancer.

Flaxseed Could Help Slow Prostate Cancer - Study By Christopher Doering

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - A common fiber supplement called flaxseed could slow the progression of prostate cancer in men when included as part of a low-fat diet, scientists said on Wednesday.

Researchers led by Dr. Wendy Demark-Wahnefried at Duke University said flaxseed contains a fiber compound called lignan that may slow tumor growth by binding to the male hormone testosterone, which is believed to contribute to the progression of prostrate cancer.

Dr. William Dahut, a researcher of prostate cancer at the National Cancer Institute, said the study supports earlier findings showing that hormonal treatments, which shut down testosterone production, are successful in killing cancer cells. In the Duke study, the flaxseed impeded the action of testosterone, which may spur the growth of tumors.

Dahut said a larger sample group exposed to a flaxseed diet for a longer period of time was needed to gauge if cancer growth continued to slow and if side effects occurred from decreased levels of testosterone. Such problems could include hot flashes, decreased sexual drive or breast enlargement.

I would love to see some evidence in opposition to what I have been reading...

Cause I have flax sitting on top of the refrigerator unopenned....

Samoth is doing a little research...

The brother is an alchemist in the very least. He might be able to provide a little insight.

From what I've read, only the lignans present in flaxseeds bind with testosterone. Normally these are filtered out when the oil is extracted from the seeds. This article has a good summary of the pros and (possible) cons of taking flaxseed oil.

I've also read fish oil is worse for men that flax oil... I've been taking flax for the past two years and feel nothing but it's benefits... Cleaner skin to name the most important. The second i stop my skin dries out and i get a tiny breakout but when i get back on my skin clears and up and i just feel better.
^^^^^ what do the vets have to say?

I've never seen anything stating it binds up test. I've used Flax for about 10 years now and had nothing, but benefits.

If you are afraid of lower test levels, there is always the alternative...fish oil.

I think anytime someone mentions falling testosterone levels...we all panic.

If Flax decreases Test production, that will have no effect if your on a Test cycle..... In fact, if youre using Test in a cycle, Flax will help decrease aromatization, and give all the other benefits..... I would need more evidence to really believe it decreases Test production.....

I have been using whole ground flax seed in my shakes for the past week +. I have been having 2-3 shakes per day and using 4 tablespoons of the ground seed per shake! (along with whey, powdered nonfat milk, banana etc etc) I like the taste and though I am bulking with high carb etc., I am not putting on fat like usual. In fact, after eating a ton of junk food all this week, a buddy told me today that I had a lot of "cuts." This suprised me, but he's pretty much correct. I'm staying pretty lean. Probably a combo of the flax (read as increased fiber?) and letro (keeping the estrogen and therefore fat gain down).

I'm going back to low calorie for the next two weeks but will keep the flax seeds.

How much flax oil were they taking? Is 1-2 tbsp a day really enough to cause problems?

I'd love to read more studies and evidence but IMHO I really doubt that a natural nutrient will decrease testosterone levels to abnormal numbers...that doesn't make sense, unless we are eating natural poison; MAYBE could help leveling test levels when a higher than normal level is detected in the body. I'd be more afraid of a whopper lowering my test levels since 99% of our nutrition is processed and intoxicated shit and our lifestyle is 180 degrees opposite from mother nature.

The funniest thing about this post is that getting off flax seed oil a GNC product is the only option, not getting off the test. Lol. Great posts LMAO. I love it.

exactly. The abnormal thing here is high levels of testosterone, not the flax trying to do his job. I'm sure Flax will not harm natural levels of testosterone; in the case of people with prostate problems, that's a genetic degeneration caused by bad nutrtion and lifestyle habits generation after generation, and the flax is just doing some kind of miracle on a disfunctional body.

P.S. I've never heard of a horse with erection problems caused by an enlarged prostate...LOL

I have never heard nor until i see some proper ecvidence will i believe such an interaction with test. Polunsaturated fats reduce normal test production but that is it.

However noone should be taking flax over EFAs no sense at all. Like taking prohormones over steroids what is the point
