Bought some....now, what do I do with it??

Sprinkled a tblsp on my morning cereal (Kashi Good Friends High Fiber 12g fiber!)....but what else??

And how many tblsps should I eat per day??

Oh and anyone know the fat info for 2 tblsp? The package says 4.5g fat, 0 sat, 0 trans fat, but no breakdown on the poly or mono fats....

1 tbsp of flaxseed seed edible = 2.3 g protein, 4.0 g fat and 4.1 g CHO.

Fatty acid breakdown per tbsp.

0.4 grams sat fat (16:0 and 18:0)

0.8 grams monounsat (18:1)

remainder is polyunsat.

2.2 grams of 18:2 (linoleic)

0.6 grams of 18:3 (alpha-linolenic)

I can't stand the taste of flaxseed oil! Does it depend on the brand? Cuz the kind I have makes me gag! Doesn't matter if I put it in my protien shake, or on oatmeal or just slam it back all by itself!

I heard this from others so I bought the meal -- it's ground up & I haven't noticed any taste to it at all....

I've eaten the seeds ground for a while not to much taste mixed with
things.. Kind of nutty tasting to me.

But I've put worse tasting things in my mouth before.. :worried:
Beef liver powder.

Best to grind the seeds so you can get all the nutrients.
If not most of them passed through your digestive system.

I grind a few cupfuls up with a clean coffee grinder and put them in a container in the fridge. The seeds stay in their bag in the freezer until I need more.

Good on oatmeal, yogurt, cereal, even in shakes.

I also use flax meal in my oatmeal. You can also throw it into your protein mix.

But get this - I give it to my cat in his dry food as well. He had kitty dandruff pretty bad since we moved up north (dry dry dry winter!). Within a day he was amazingly fluffy again and he's all happy again!

I have 3 tablespoons of Udos' s Choice divided up throughout the day.
i put it in my Cream of wheat for breakfast and hav eon vegies at dinner and have some in my protein shake at bedtime.

GOOD Flax oil should be very light and a bit nutty tasting. Ther's one brand... I can't remember who it was. I think the brand was NOW... anyway, tried it once and it was awful. Bitter and nasty... like earwax or detergent. I thought I got a bad bottle, so I tossed it and got a new one. Same thing. I went and got a different brand and it's fine. Big thumbs up on the Udo's though. Seems to have a much more balanced omega profile.

The advantage to the meal is that you get the fiber too. I just put a Tbsp or two into protein shakes. Thickens them a little, adds a little texture. Mmmmm...
:p

I buy the liquid flaxseed oil at Trader Joe's & I really like the taste. It is a bit nutty & light in color. Inexpensive, too. About $8 for a big bottle!

This is correct. If it tastes bad, it is bad as in oxidized or rancid.

are Flaxseed gel caps as good as the Flaxseed powder?
I've been taking them daily and wanted to make sure I wasn't just wasting $$$.

thanks!
