Flat foot or elevated heels?

I was at the gym today doing squats. WHILE I'm doing squats, I overhear a trainer say "he's not doing it right, that's why he's elevating his heels". After my set, I see him point to me and talk more.

Me, surprised, say "what?"

He, then spends the next five minutes telling me that I can't handle the weight and that I should do other leg exercises until I can squat.

Me, surprised again, say "there's other leg exercises besides squat, lunges and SLDL?"

He, then spends the next minutes listing a few exercises, leg press, hack squat machine, leg extention, leg curls, etc.

Me, surprised for a third time, look at his client doing squats on the smith machine and say, "But I don't get it, she's not even going to 90! I'm going ass to calf! Why are you saying that I'm doing it wrong? What about your client?!"

He, then proceeded to ignore me.

My friend then said, "yeah Ender, but I've seen him go ass to calf on the smith with 275."

Me, surprised for perhaps the last time tonight, say "its a smith machine, anyone can go for 275 on a smith because you can lean on the bar!"

So, is elevated heels really that bad? How do you squat flat foot when you are going down that low?

you mean your putting a plate under your heels correct?..not that your heels are actually coming off the ground when you push the weight up?..if your using a plate thats fine, i have done em both ways and i think its just a personal preference on which is more comfortable.

Maybe you misunderstood his intentions and he was trying to tell you that you would look better in heels while squatting?

Hmmm. He WAS behind me. Hmmm. You know...alot of things make sense now...like how he offered to call me to give me a wake up call...
