I was at the gym today doing squats. WHILE I'm doing squats, I overhear a trainer say "he's not doing it right, that's why he's elevating his heels". After my set, I see him point to me and talk more.
Me, surprised, say "what?"
He, then spends the next five minutes telling me that I can't handle the weight and that I should do other leg exercises until I can squat.
Me, surprised again, say "there's other leg exercises besides squat, lunges and SLDL?"
He, then spends the next minutes listing a few exercises, leg press, hack squat machine, leg extention, leg curls, etc.
Me, surprised for a third time, look at his client doing squats on the smith machine and say, "But I don't get it, she's not even going to 90! I'm going ass to calf! Why are you saying that I'm doing it wrong? What about your client?!"
He, then proceeded to ignore me.
My friend then said, "yeah Ender, but I've seen him go ass to calf on the smith with 275."
Me, surprised for perhaps the last time tonight, say "its a smith machine, anyone can go for 275 on a smith because you can lean on the bar!"
So, is elevated heels really that bad? How do you squat flat foot when you are going down that low?
