Flat bench - shoulder pain post lift - any ideas?

Scenario - switched from low incline db presses (using a 1-6 format) to flat bench 2 weeks ago. Have not done any flat pressing in months. Warmups go fine and I hit my work sets - 5x3 @ 315, ring finger on the notch width grip.

Reps are fine - but as soon as the bar is racked, I had this shooting pain in my front delt down my arm. Couple of seconds and then it is gone. Happened after each set.

Moved onto incline Hammer Strength press - no pain.

Incline flyes - no pain.

Apollo Axle close grip bench (235) - no pain.

Dips - no pain.

Going to schedule an appointment with my massotherapist to work the shoulders over just to be safe. I have had a history of bicep tendonitis with my left shoulder - but this newest joy is in my right.

make sure you're warmed up and stretched well and don't flare your elbows out.

That is what happened two weeks ago. Elbows looked like chicken wings flapping around.

I might need to find another warmup excercise that will not fatigue my pressing muscle.

I do sit in the steam room for 5-7 minutes pre-workout to help loosen up. Maybe a sweatshirt/long sleeve shirt to keep on thru the warmup.

no, physical movement as a warmup to increase bloodflow to the muscle, you arent raising your body temperature in the steam room, despite what people think.

Get a spotter to help you rack heavy weights...or get your head back on that bench so you don't have to rotate your shoulders to rack the weight.

Bring your grip in some. I'm just taking a guess that my shoulders are wider than yours and my WIDEST grip is pinky on rings.

Good advice here from the man. I started moving wider on my flats, and inclines. I started getting much shoulder pain. Ever since I moved back to the rings, shoulder pain is gone.

I have the same thing

It's one of the head of the biceps brachii

and the flat bench is more indicated than the incline
