Five Greatest Metal Albums of All Time

majutsu

Well-known member
I was listening to "Killers" Iron Maiden when I thought, "Damn, this is pretty good." (duh, I know . . . ) I got to thinking, what are the five greatest metal albums of all time? My list is:

1) Iron Maiden "Killers"
2) Slayer "Reign in Blood"
3) Judas Priest "Screaming for Vengence"
4) Metallica (The Black Album)
5) Pantera "Cowboys from Hell"

What do y'all think? Powerslave, etc. Top Five!

Last edited:
1. Judas Priest "Screaming for Vengeance" or "British Steel"
2. Iron Maiden "Number of the beast"
3. Queensryche "Operation Mindcrime"
4. Black Sabbath "Heaven and Hell"
5. Motorhead "Ace of Spades"

Top five in no particular order:

Iron Maiden - "Powerslave"
Slayer - "Reign in Blood"
Metallica - "Master of Puppets"
Judas Priest - "British Steel"
Iced Earth - "Dark Saga"

I'm real tempted to list Iced Earth's "Glorious Burden" disc. I cannot stop listening to it especially after seeing them a few weeks back.

Five greatest would be a tough call for me, but five most important in my opinion:

1. Black Sabbath - Paranoid
2. Metallica - Master of Puppets
3. Slayer - Reign in Blood
4. Venom - Black Metal
5. Napalm Death - Scum

black sabbath= we sold our souls for rock and roll
ac/dc=back in black
metallica=justice for all
ozzy=no more tears(little softer but zakk is awesome on this)
pantera= vulgar display of power

Everyone's got "reign in blood" Ahhhhhhhhh....... My slayer heart is happy. Well except Hamstershaver, but I thought about "South of Heaven" too

Everyone else picked "Master of Puppets" for Metallica instead of the black album. You are probably right. I had alot of trouble picking a metallica album, because frankly I don't like them, but I knew they belonged there.

Alot had Iron Maiden, but no one agreed on an album.

Black Sabbath probably did belong there. Good idea!

Everyone who picked Judas Priest thought "british steel" and that was there before my edit :) I couldn't decide between "british steel" or "screaming for vengence".

Five is a very, very small number :(

I think somewhere at home, I have a list of my top 25 that I made for a journalist a few years back. I'll see if I can dig that up.

You just about always see Slayer's "Reign in Blood" in the top 5-10 in lists. Same goes for "Master of Puppets". "The Number of the Beast" is almost always listed as well and I never could figure that out. Don't get me wrong I love the album and it does have my all time favorite song (Hallowed Be Thy Name) but I think the next two were better.

I don't listen that much heavy metal, and I'm not one of those who considers Led Zeppelin, Deep Purple or AC/DC as Metal bands. They play hard rock, at their heaviest.

But Metallica's "Black album" is the best one from Metal genre.
