First time in here, I can use some advise!

;) Hi, this is my first time in here. I'm 33yrs old, about 230 and I REALLY want to do this. I am walking daily about 30min, and I'm watching what I eat, but I can tell I need something with a little boost, to help my metablism and give me some energy. What is out there?

Hi...

I'm fairly new the the boards too but have found that everyone has been very helpful. As was recommended to me, really check what you are eating, diet is the most important thing in getting your metabolism moving. There are a ton of "boosters" out there ie; xenadrine, diet fuel, stacker, but I would recommend concentrating on your diet and incorporating some weight training along with your walks. If you begin to write down everything you eat, it will be easier to find where the culprit lies. In my case, I found out that even though what I was eating was healthy, it was clearly not proportionate in terms of protein, fats, and carbs nor was it enough!

I read a really inspiration story that sweethunny posted that you may want to check out on the diet discussion board. She shows her before and after pics and you can see how her hard work has paid off.

Look around at the different diets posted. Diet is the most important factor. I do a modified CKD diet where i eat nothing but protein 3 days and on 4th i carb up w/ 1 meal. Remember if you starve yourself your metabolism will be very slow. So you will have to eat frequently or have some sort of cheat day as i have mentioned in the CKD plan i have. Diet is the key.

As far as your workout w/ walking, 30min. is plenty but you will have to slowly build up strength and endurance and get to do light jogs. You can do light jogs for 1 min. then walk for 1 min. and keep doing that till your decided time is up. Key is to increase intensity slowly, but to keep increasing it. You may start off w/ light jogs and eventually get to sprints, and instead of walking the next minute you'll be jogging it. So work on it, slowly but surely you'll get there. May also want to look into some gyms close to your houe.

Ah.. forgot to mention. Drink a lot of water. Much more than 8glassfulls.

a good diet
+ cardio (both low and high intensity)
+ weight training
+ some sup. (ECA stacks) could help you

I really appreciate the feed back. Let me tell you a little more about myself to understand why I asked about energy boosters. In my early teens and 20's I was a heavy meth user, used from age 14 to 29. Since I stopped using, I gained so much and I have been told that due to my drug use, my metabolism is all messed up. I know my weight plays a part into my tiredness, which can sometimes trigger depression. I'm not here to tell a sob story or look for sympathy. I know it is going to take hard work and that no one can do it for me. Is there anything I can take that can increase my energy til I can do it on my own? Also, what are ECA stacks?

Hi there. Bless your heart! I have walked in your shoes! I was at 300 lbs and am down to 130. Right now I am battling the last 20. I know better than most how hard it is to excercise when you are heavy and not feeling so great about yourself. I'm here to tell you that willcome in time. First things first. I think that all diets work, one just has to find what works for them. Low carbing works for me. I cut out ALL sugar and flour. Yes, that means bread and desserts. It was hard at first, but after a few weeks the craving go away and it becomes second nature. For me, not letting myself be hungry was the key. I always have safe foods ready in the fridge so I am not tempted to grab something bad. I started going to the gym after a year when I had lost about 100 lbs. It wasn't easy! It's easier now. (I'm 15 years older than you are!) Anyway, my advise is not to get discouraged or overwhelmed. I know how that just makes it worse. Wishing you the very best of luck. If it helps........if I can do it, anyone can. I was the hopeless mess.....cookies were my bestfriend. I did it. So can you. I promise. YEAH for you!!!!!!!!!

Oooops! Let me set the record straight. I'm about 320lbs, not 230lbs, I hit the wrong keys... Thanks for the support, I still don't know what a ECA stack is...(hint hint)

ECAm refers to the active "ingredients" in most fat burners. E=ephedra C= caffiene and A= asprine. When these are taken in a proper ratio they create a thermagenic affect in the body increasing metabolism , suppresing appetite , increase in heart rate ect. Be careful though , these might not be the answer for you.

okay, next question. My boyfriend is really into bodybuilding and he has a "weight pile" in the backyard. Would it be a good idea to work out with the weights now or should I wait? My boyfriend is into building up mass, and he isn't sure about my situation, which is why I'm here...

Lifting weights is the best thing for long term fat loss. More muscle mass burns more calories. Diet is also a huge part of the equation. Throw some cardio in there and you have got the formula for fat loss:)

:mix: okay, I plan to walk daily, slowly working my way up to jogging. I plan on eating carefully, taking in a lot more fruits & veggies to snack on. What kind of weight lifting should I start off with? I want to lose my stomach, flabby arms and tighten my legs.

You've made the first step...now the hard part is sticking to it....don't give up, it will take awhile to see results so be patient...I started using this board a year ago for training and diet advice and it has helped me so much....I am currently on a diet that I got from this board and it seems to be working...you will get alot of useful information here! Welcome....:)

I'm at work and today I won't be on line much. Can anyone give me links to diets that have been posted that might work for me, or suggest any diets for me to try?

welcome and congratulations on making a life change :)

zone & atkins (and variations of these) seem to be most common diets you can do a search with those key words

also you might look into the body for life program one of our mods had great results with the program

I would ask my physician before using an ECA/ fat burner

I would be willing to be that as you walk and work out more, your energy levels will improve. I am a recovering coke addict and I know exactly what your going through in terms of the energy. Be careful when reading labels of food that say "fat-free." There is often alot of sugar and calories to watch out for.
Good luck.

By the way, if you ask your doctor about ECA, he will tell you not too on principle and give you advice like "eat a low-fat diet." That's fine, but you still have to watch the carbs and calories. It seems like you want to make a lifestyle change and get on a program you can sustain. The Atkins diet works great, but I would be careful in restricting carbs too much at this point, particularly with your current low energy level. Don't try to do too much too soon. You have the rest of your life to be fit. For every 1 person that keeps weight of in the Atkins diet, there are probably like 20 others that can't maintain it so get some exercise and eat a sensible diet and you'll start losing the weight and feeling better. There are many people on this board that are very advanced, and some of the diet techniques, while valid, are really not for beginners.

It would be more than principle. It would be a VERY BAD IDEA to speed up the heart of someone who is that size. No offense inteneded whatsoever, but her heart has to work hard enough already.

that's where I was going with my comment...just was being delicate in my words

Concerns

Do not take any fat boosters that contain caffeine and ephedra, until you get checked by a doctor. This isn't common, but it can happen. Check to make sure your heart is in good condition. A few have had heart attacks from them. Do not use the fat burners continously. Cycle 8 weeks on and 4 weeks off, that's your best bet. I recommend Syntrax's Adipokinetix (good results without feeling wired) with Syntrax's Guggulbolic. Good combo. Train 3-4 days a week with weights, trying to left as heavy as you can for reps (8-12 reps) and do 3 days of cardio for 30-45 minutes. Eat plenty of protein, good fats and a small amount of complex carbs daily. If you got any questions please email me at [email protected]

I know this question is gonna sound dumb, but I want to learn as much as I can and I can't learn without asking, so bare with me. What are best sources of carbs, protein and good fats?

I will list a few of each. There are more, but here are some to help you out...

Fats:
flax seed oil
Natural Peanut Butter

Carbs:
Brown rice
Oatmeal (not flavored)
sweet potatos

Protein:
chicken breast
tuna
protein powders
