;) Hi, this is my first time in here. I'm 33yrs old, about 230 and I REALLY want to do this. I am walking daily about 30min, and I'm watching what I eat, but I can tell I need something with a little boost, to help my metablism and give me some energy. What is out there?

Hi...

I'm fairly new the the boards too but have found that everyone has been very helpful. As was recommended to me, really check what you are eating, diet is the most important thing in getting your metabolism moving. There are a ton of "boosters" out there ie; xenadrine, diet fuel, stacker, but I would recommend concentrating on your diet and incorporating some weight training along with your walks. If you begin to write down everything you eat, it will be easier to find where the culprit lies. In my case, I found out that even though what I was eating was healthy, it was clearly not proportionate in terms of protein, fats, and carbs nor was it enough!

I read a really inspiration story that sweethunny posted that you may want to check out on the diet discussion board. She shows her before and after pics and you can see how her hard work has paid off.

Look around at the different diets posted. Diet is the most important factor. I do a modified CKD diet where i eat nothing but protein 3 days and on 4th i carb up w/ 1 meal. Remember if you starve yourself your metabolism will be very slow. So you will have to eat frequently or have some sort of cheat day as i have mentioned in the CKD plan i have. Diet is the key.

As far as your workout w/ walking, 30min. is plenty but you will have to slowly build up strength and endurance and get to do light jogs. You can do light jogs for 1 min. then walk for 1 min. and keep doing that till your decided time is up. Key is to increase intensity slowly, but to keep increasing it. You may start off w/ light jogs and eventually get to sprints, and instead of walking the next minute you'll be jogging it. So work on it, slowly but surely you'll get there. May also want to look into some gyms close to your houe.

Ah.. forgot to mention. Drink a lot of water. Much more than 8glassfulls.

a good diet
+ cardio (both low and high intensity)
+ weight training
+ some sup. (ECA stacks) could help you

I really appreciate the feed back. Let me tell you a little more about myself to understand why I asked about energy boosters. In my early teens and 20's I was a heavy meth user, used from age 14 to 29. Since I stopped using, I gained so much and I have been told that due to my drug use, my metabolism is all messed up. I know my weight plays a part into my tiredness, which can sometimes trigger depression. I'm not here to tell a sob story or look for sympathy. I know it is going to take hard work and that no one can do it for me. Is there anything I can take that can increase my energy til I can do it on my own? Also, what are ECA stacks?

Hi there. Bless your heart! I have walked in your shoes! I was at 300 lbs and am down to 130. Right now I am battling the last 20. I know better than most how hard it is to excercise when you are heavy and not feeling so great about yourself. I'm here to tell you that willcome in time. First things first. I think that all diets work, one just has to find what works for them. Low carbing works for me. I cut out ALL sugar and flour. Yes, that means bread and desserts. It was hard at first, but after a few weeks the craving go away and it becomes second nature. For me, not letting myself be hungry was the key. I always have safe foods ready in the fridge so I am not tempted to grab something bad. I started going to the gym after a year when I had lost about 100 lbs. It wasn't easy! It's easier now. (I'm 15 years older than you are!) Anyway, my advise is not to get discouraged or overwhelmed. I know how that just makes it worse. Wishing you the very best of luck. If it helps........if I can do it, anyone can. I was the hopeless mess.....cookies were my bestfriend. I did it. So can you. I promise. YEAH for you!!!!!!!!!

Oooops! Let me set the record straight. I'm about 320lbs, not 230lbs, I hit the wrong keys... Thanks for the support, I still don't know what a ECA stack is...(hint hint)
