First Impressions?

There are some here that have been here for ages, there are some that have been here for days. I'm curious to know what were your first impressions upon finding this board? cliquey? same old same old as with any chat board...150 dudes piling on 3 women..or..several jackasses among mostly cool people...a couple of funny people getting read by tons of lurkers?

doing a paper on Internet socialization and how it differs (or doesn't)from the real world

Very cliquey, always has been for the whole time I have been around. The people change and new ones come and go but cliques are always there.

I am willing to bet that a large number of people find it much easier to socialize here then in real life situations and find a comfort in the anonymity. Could be wrong but just the feeling I get from some.

I would only like to add that cyberspace is such an odd phenomena. What is portrayed on the boards is very one dimensional - it is very easy to hide what you don't want to show, but easier to expose some other aspects of our personalities as we really aren't "here".

I have been around a long time and met many board members. Some were my friends, others were just acquaintances and I did have a one very intense relationship. One thing I did learn, however, is that these people in REAL LIFE are not all that they seem here... I was very VERY sadly disappointed by some as I made the transition from a "cyber" relationship to one in the real world.

I guess though, that one can argue the same about someone met in the gym or at work or wherever else. Only thing is that if you meet someone in real life first they show their true character much more quickly.

People come and go , it's my 4th year here (1 year of lurking too) and I dont even know if I know anyone from back then who still posts now except bigdawg and some others. But it's like high school, theres the cool people (aap, mustang18, etc...) who no one makes fun of and everyone hangs on their last word, and the normal people who get by, the uncool people, and the idiots. I wont name any examples of the last 3 categories!

I have never posted on the net or chatted etc. I just came here to read about fitness. But, I found the chat board a few months ago and I was surprised. The people are alot cooler and smarter than I expected. Although, I would like to hang around here more and learn more about everyone. Then, go to a big Meet-up and see who you mofo's really are.

I wasn't scared at all, actually...
once I started posting,
it felt almost like confession or something...
besides, it gets mighty boring here at the library
the novelty does wear off from time to time...
but I hardly ever get bored here at EF,
that's for sure!!

Initially I came on here in search of information on HRT and steroids along with knowledge of some advanced training techniques and diet. Then I found C&C which provides some depressurization at times.

As with anything in life, there are some good people, some annoying people and some who are just not worth the time of day. There isn't anything to be intimidated by in any internet scenario. The likelyhood of ever meeting the majority of folks I converse with is extremely small.

The primary thing was the enormity of the information I had to go through to obtain the information I needed or wanted.

Didn't wander into the C&C for a year or so, cuz it seemed like a buncha goons bent on slamming people. Then it dawned on me that I fit right in.
