First Bench contest this wkend??????

I am extremely pumped about this contest this weekend. It is not well organized but, who cares cant wait to compete. Do you guys have any pre morning rituals that you think enhance your performance? Like what you eat energy drinks etc. Any advice or suggestions would be appreciated...
 
Eat early and plenty, with fluids, also one or two ephedrine with a black coffee does wonders, or just the coffee does great by itself if ephedrine makes you shaky. Stay calm and focused and tear the bar apart.
 
Yeah, I'd eat a lot and drink coffee, and listen to Metallica all day lol.
 
i go out to eat for breakfast, i eat some eggs, toast, orange juice, and a few pancakes or waffles. i try to save my energy as much as i can till i warmup, so i dont take any epedrine of caffiene untill i start to warmup, that way by the time im ready to lift its taking its effect on me. just stay calm and save your energy till you lift. and eat alot of carbs in the days before the meet.
 
If you don't have to worry about your weight, be sure to get some good complex carbs the night before and drink plenty of water. I really don't ever get to do that because I'm always sucking weight. But, I love a big pecan waffle w/ butter and syrup after weigh in!!

Funny as it sounds, I eat skittles all day during the meet and will pop a caffeine pill before the meet and right after bench (ephedrine is banned in my fed.). I like to listen to heavy music; slipknot, godsmack, disturbed. I also do a lot of visualization before each lift.

I am glad you brought the wieght situation up. I am trying to stay under 225lbs. I am floating around that area right now. The meet begins at 10:00 a.m. So I am hoping to weigh in at 223lbs. I am not expecting much, just striving to place. I'll be going at it bar boned no straps, shirts etc... I got 475 this past monday, hoping that the excitement will get me up to 485 trying to be realistic.

When you get 3 attempts how do you approach this? !st lift do you get what you know you can? Or would you recommend exhausting alot of energy on trying for a little more? Appreciate all of the information....
 
My philosophy on attempts is that your opener should be something you can do sick, hurt or dead. It should be easy and give you confidence for your other two attempts. Nothing worse than bombing out because it wastes both your time and money. I usually open with something I can do for 2 or 3, so even if I'm having an off day I can do it. Second attempts are close to a max effort. For my last meet, I opened with 210 and got it really easy, so I went up to 225 for a 2nd. It was a new PR for me, but I had done that in the gym before, so I was pretty confident in it. I always gauge my 3rd attempts off of how my 2nd feels. I usually have a plan of what I want to end up with before a meet even starts, but it changes according to how the weights feel that day.

1st attempt open light, this attempt should be a joke, something easy that you will smoke and get you pumped up and in the meet.

2nd attempt i like to take a 5 lb PR at least, sooner or later nickels and dimes add up to a dollar.

3rd attempt let it all out. take something big, maybe a 20-30 lbs more than 2nd attempt.

last meet i went squat- 650-725-775
bench-455-510-550 missed 3rd att
deadlift-550-625-650

i like to make big jumps from 1st to second, usually for squat and deadlif i open 75lbs under what i want my 2nd to be. and bench 50lbs or so under what i want my second to be.
 
Sounds like the way to approach it. I just found out it would be in my best interest to get under 220lbs.I just weighed 223lbs.. whats the best way to drop 4 pounds by sat morning without sacrificing to much strength...
 
Eat only protein and water for one day and you will drop the weight like nothing. Then carb up like a bastard after weigh ins. Drink some gatorade with 2 tablespoons of glycerine in it. You will swell up like a toad, but be stronger than hell.

Weigh in at 219 lbs and lift at 226 or more. Don't drink anything before weigh ins. Then eat and drink a bunch after that, don't forget the glycerine. You will do great.

I personall do not like doing ephedrine and caffeine, but if you decide to do it. Don't do it till just before warming up, or you will peak too early and be crashing by the time you lift. That is what always happened to me on that stuff.

Lower your carbs for the rest of today and tomorrow. Don't drink anything but water and try putting some lemon juice in it. Don't cut your water, just try to have the majority of it in the early part of tomorrow. Also, try eating a lemon tomorrow night if you can stand it. They are a great natural diuretic.

After weigh-in, have something really salty. I've found great success in those cup of soup things. They've got over 1,000 mgs of Na in them. Load up on your fluids. Pedialyte, although it's not too tasty, works well in replacing lost electrolytes.

I've found that those things work well for me.
 
Hey, do any organizations test for caffeine? Just thought of that.
 
I have a few rituals the night before the meet I sit down and tell my shirt what I expect from him and ask him to hold together for me so I don't get hurt.


I get really filthy with my woman and have some sick sadistic sex.

I eat a pizza after we are done with that, the other stuff is illegal and I can't tell you but it is fun.

I sleep for 10 hrs wake up and have more sex

then I eat, throw up and eat again....45 in before i lift i eat 3 dannon yougerts....

eat lots of carb the entire week, if your worried about your weight fuck it and eat yourself into the next weight class go in strong. fuck ephedrine it will screw up your ability to consentrate. have a cup of coffe with douvble cream and suger, if you need ephedrine to psych you you have not done the work and your not metnally ready to lift. dont think about the meet other than the basics of the lift until meet day. when you go for big lifts listen to you favorite song and play it befor you go on the platform . your body will flip a switch and associate the song with what your abvout to do

I like to eat a huge meal the night before with a couple of brews,big breakfast the next day,sip on a pint of Jack Daniels during the meet!
