Finished my first full day as a Vet Tech

I also spent a few hours there yesterday and I'm not sure if it's because I'm new to it or what, but it really doesn't feel like a job. In those two days, I have seen puppies getting their tails and thumbs nipped, done a few rectal exams, assisted with a Neuter, and even helped with a dog that was hit by a car and very badly injured only to look pretty damn good by the end of the day. Hopefully when I go in Monday, the dog will be better. Truly gratifying so far

Seems like ya really enjoy your work...
then again, I imagine in your case it's more of a passion.

Keep it up & good luck w/ everything!

well im glad there is peeps like you because i couldnt do it and i need someone to work on spot when he's sick.

plus id get too sad, i dont like seeing animals or people in pain.

One of the vet techs at our office loves my dog and plays with him all day when he's there (he has vaccination reactions so they keep him 4-6 hours after shots unless I can take the day off to be with him). Anyhow, he loves her so much that he always looks a little bummed out when I show up.

What a neat job!

Hook us up with gear!

My SIL works at a vet place. She's been there at least 12-14 years. She actually says she's sick of seeing sick dogs and animals they need to "put down" every day and wanted to get out of the business because it got her down a lot when seeing it all the time. It's not always a success story.

She loves animals and wanted to get out of it, so keep that in mind. Either way, it's great to have a job you look forward to going to every day. Good luck with it.

Yea I definitely know that everday won't go as well as the last couple. I'm sure I will see animals come and go that will not survive and it was pretty rough seeing the family of the dog come back there. Seeing them possibly saying goodbye for the last time choked me up a little so I definitely will have to develop that physician mentality of caring for the patient but not caring that much to get emotionally attached.
