Finally worked out today....

As some of you know, I've been too ill to work out. But today my friend came over and talked me into giving it a shot.
So I finally went back to the gym. I did a very light work out. I realized I lost a lot of strength.
The last time I worked out was Sept 3.

So discouraging how much stength/stamina I lost. Any tips on getting my stength back?!

I just came back from a major injury, and I noticed that there were two factors in my recovery. One was physical, the other was psychological.

Physically, it is just doing what you can do, tracking your progress and just building back up to your pre-illness strength. Muscle memory counts for a lot, and you will be amazing at the human machine's ability to recover.

I used lighter weights, high reps, so things like 4 sets of 20-25 reps.

I have found the psychological aspect a bit more difficult, as I could have re-injured myself. My physiotherapist helped immensely with this, and did training and strengthening exercises with me, so I figured out what I could do and couldn't do (and really, I could push things more than I thought).

I think it is finding the balance with being patient and kind to your body, and also getting that GrrrrrrrrrrrrrL pushing it to failure.

Hi Tat.....you're so right, the psychological aspect is a huge factor. I did not feel confident at all. My mind was already in the mode that I was not going to be ABLE to work out.
Must admit, I was very anxious getting back. And to boot, I started at a whole new gym. Was at the same gym for 9 yrs and was very confortable there.
I know it's going to be a slow go, which at this point is ok with me. I'm just so happy I had enough energy to actually get there.
Thanks for the input :-)

First off - GOOD FOR YOU BLUE!!! :)

Secondly, what Ms. Tatyana said... take it easy, baby steps. And do remember that muscles have memory. Don't give up just do what you can do. You will be amazed at how quickly your strength will come back. Just eat well and rest plenty.

I've been forced to eat well b/c of my health issue so that's been a total plus. Rest, well I need to get more of that. Meds make me agitated and I don't rest enough.
I know if I can regain my strength, this illness will not kick my ass as bad.
baby steps.......

Trust me when I tell you that ANY activity will help you regain your strength. I know it might seem like you are going through the motions but the next thing you know, you are feeling pretty groovy and chomping at the bit for more.

YOU GO GURL!

Blue, after knowing what you've been going thru as of late, I'm damn proud of you!

Keep those spirits up and head back to the gym today! :)

Thanks G..I must say, I was pretty darn proud of me too. My friend came over and she convince me to go, so I just did it.
As for going to the gym today.....wellllllllllllll, I am so SORE..haha! I swear, I cannot bend over from doing dead lifts yesterday. I need to take it easy b/c of all these damn meds.
I am however going for a swim today, so will get some exercise done.
I just have to try my hardest to work on on the good days and rest and not feel guilt on my bad days.
I need to get my sexy back ;-)

Glad to hear you made it back to the gym.
Here is what I do when I have been out due to medical issues.
I take the time as an opportunity to perfect my diet.
You get nice and lean while you work your way back into the gym.
You can see every muscle twitch along the way and it feels amazing!
Kick some ass!

My diet has been very good. I've been juicing and eating well..no choice really.
I will slowly get back. On the strong days, I'll work out.
Thanks for the encouragement :-)
