Feeling Undiminished, Blut Attempts Restoration

Now that would be nice but I suspect it might just be out of reach. Actually I'd be mightily pleased with a 200x1.

When i finished my last single factor journal, i squated 180 x 1, then a week or so later did 200 x 1. My 5rm after the end of that journal was 150 x 5, i think i squated 160 x 4 or 5 a week or so after but not 2 sure. I think i could get maybe 2 reps with 170 maybe 3 at most a this stage. I think you should be able to get at least 200 x 3 by the time your next cycle is up. But that's just my humble input, obviously you know more than me about how much you can lift.

Intensity - Week 4 Day 3

I didn't feel in the mood for front squats and GMs today but did fancy some dealifts. We'd been moving a goodly number of rubber mats this afternoon and they got me in the mood for some pulling.

The ten sets of doubles were done such that I started a fresh set every 20 seconds so the whole thing took just over 3 minutes. I was gasping by the end. The top single took three attempts. I went for some chalk for the third attempt and just gripped hard while I pulled. I'm sure I've lost some grip strength from neglecting my deadlifts.

An enjoyable little session.

Good times, good times. Next time, try those doubles w/ about 85% of your 1RM. And do one every 60 seconds. Supposed to be a great conditioner.

Intensity - Week 4 Day 4

I think this is the last workout of pushing squats in this fashion. I seem to have topped out and, while I feel reasonably fresh within myself, I'm feeling like I'm getting generally beat up and seem to be regressing. That day I did the triple at 170.5Kg, the triple at 160 felt strong and solid. Today's 165Kg single was a grind.

I decided to try a slightly different approach to getting to the higher weights by dropping to doubles and singles. The single at 165Kg felt heavy. I hit a sticking point and had to push hard to get through it. I reckoned I'd get the lift at 173 but I just couldn't get out of the hole again and had to dump it.

After that my arms were aching again along with too much else. I finished off with a couple of sets of 5 at 100 and 140Kg.

I'll take a session tomorrow and then I'm going to ease off a lot over next week and then start in on some volume work again the following week.

I have an ache in what I'm guessing is a tendon running along the underside of my foot, through the instep. I think it started to bother me at around the time I started dumping the bar. It's worst after I've been resting it such as after sleep or on getting up out of the comfy chair.

I think I'm ready for some rehab after all this restoration.

Intensity - Week 4 Day 5

Nothing, as ever, to report on rows. The top set was comfortably difficult but no ball-breaker.

I attacked the ramping on the press a little more aggressively than usual today. The 93Kg press is a PR. I thought I had a shot at taking it again but didn't get the leg drive and couldn't press it out. By the time I'd finished the sets at 85 my joints were hurting again. 93Kg x 1 PR

I was looking back through my squats from the last run of the 5x5 and I'm pretty much in the ballpark of where I was after finishing my cycle, definitely stronger in the squat than any time during the cycle. Accordingly, I reckon this program has been a complete success.

I grabbed a half-kilo PR which might be less than some expected but fulfills the thread title. I'm not displeased and I'm going to lick my wounds for a week.

I think it's been a successful 7 weeks, and an interesting one with the 20 reppers. You must have been gutted after the food poisoning took all the gains away from your cycle, but you're back and you've exceeded that point. Can you really lick the undersides of your feet? ;)

Congraturations on a successful training cycle Getting your squat back up to pre-injury and putting 90kg over your head is no joke.

Did you get your new gym equipment yet? Any thoughts on how you'll run re-hab?

Thanks.

No signs of the rack and bench yet. They're due Monday or Tuesday. It'll be interesting to attempt a bench press again. I can only hope that the floor presses I was doing along with the OHP work will have kept my bench pressing in reasonable order.

I'm pretty excited at the thought of having a rack and bench arriving soon.

I've been pushing inclines and CG this cycle so when I bench again I'm hoping for the same. Both are about 75% of my bench 1RM so it'll be interesting to see what happens.

Here's another rescued chick. This one was on its first day out of the nest, maybe even its maiden flight.

Rehab / Deload

Just a short workout to keep the blood flowing. I'm still a mass of aches and pretty much everything felt heavier than it should have. Actually, maybe not heavier, as such, but just more of an effort than it should.

I think I just pushed hard for too long through these past few weeks. Even my deload wasn't really a particularly good deload. I'm also thinking that the attempt to widen my stance slightly on the squats ended up placing some extra strain on the knee joint that it wasn't accustomed to. It aches on the inside part of the rear of the knee, kind of inside rear corner if you think of the legs as blocks. Narrowing my stance today reduced the discomfort.

blut wump: Regarding the pain in your foot, I used to get those through overuse. The fibrous tissue that connects your heal to the ball and base of the toes tightens up and some times swells (plantar fasciitis).

Stretching it did not work for me, but what did, was almost a type of active release type massage recommended to me by a very good (and gorgeous) female weightlifter. Take a tennis ball or softball (if you are into pain), step on it and roll it up and down your foot slowly like you would with a foam roller. The pain will subside in a few days I promise.

Actually, that might help me too. Assuming the remaining tightness in my glute is the muscle still knotted up, rolling around on a tennis ball might help.

yep.....Trel who pops on here occasionaly suggested a tennis ball for some stuff I had kinked - it really helped.

My Power Rack and bench arrived today along with another two 20Kg plates. I spent most of the day assembling them. The rack has 40 bolts, each of which needed to be tightened. I'll post pictures tomorrow.

I had a quick bench workout. I've not benched since 26th May, so that's about 10 weeks with no benching, and I was curious how much I'd retained. My best at that time was a double with 140Kg

I got upto a long, slow single with 120Kg and the same again with 125. I think I could had taken 130Kg, too, but that would have been my limit. Not too bad. I did a back-off with 60Kg for 15 reps. That was starting to give me a pump so I stopped there. The backoff wasn't to failure.

Congrat on finally getting it. I woulda been so exhausted from assembling it I doubt I could work out afterwards.

Looking forward to the pics.

OK. Here's some advice: don't squat in jeans. I had (note the operative word) some decent cut-off jeans acting as shorts for the hot weather. I decided that I fancied doing some squats and couldn't be bothered getting changed.

I did my usual warmup of 20, 30, 60Kg. All fine. 100x5, 120x5. Mo problems.

I went down at 140Kg and both legs ripped from knee to groin. I finished my 140x5 for three sets but my wife stood there looking for about thirty seconds when I came out of the stable, clearly wondering what deviant sexual perversions were the real explanation for the ripped shorts, before she cracked up laughing. I doubt I could have ripped them by hand even had I wished to.

lol, as funny as it is, i remember a thread about squatting in jeans a few weeks ago. madcow made the point that jeans that are about to split while in the hole (pun unintended ;)) would be obviously be under considerable tension. so your in the hole with a heavy weight and it splits. the tension is released suddenly and that could be dangerous.
