feeling the muscle?

kiosk

New member
i recently switched from 5x5 (like 6 months on it, good gains) to a 3x10.
I notice on the higher reps i can "feel" the muscle better and concentrate much more on the squeeze and even feel out the accessory muscles (like tri;s during chest and bis during pulls).
is there any benefit to this or is all in our head?
I dont mean that in 5x5 i was throwing weights around with poor form either, is just more stressful and all you want to do is finish the set because is so freakin heavy, your head cant concentrate on anything else!

i feel there is great importance in "feeling the muscle" or making that mind-muscle connection for building mass, maybe not so much for strength/power. made my best gains after concentrating on this. but cheating at the end of the set and not getting this is ok when all u feel is pain.

Why be so restrictive in your rep range? There's no reason why you can't run reps from 5 up to 15 in different exercises to get wider benefits.

Personally I find 5 rep training feels easier than enduring the pain of a 12 rep set to failure. A lot of people think they're training hard when they do everything 5x5 but in actual fact they're training lazy.

This will probably get some vitriolic responses from the 5x5 sticklers.

lol....

Just because strength isn't one of your goals doesn't mean that it being my primary goal makes me lazy. If you knew a quarter of what I knew and spent a quarter as much time I do intaking information and training then you wouldn't have said that.

Anyways. As far as "feeling" a muscle, it is pretty much varies on an individual basis. I know of guys who live and die by the "feel the muscle" concept and I have worked with guys who wouldn't have a clue what you are talking about.

Pretty sure there is information about this in the hypertrophy sections in the stickies.

lol...and the king of vitriol comes to the rescue, and as usual big on insults and short on info.

I've got news for you dude, saying you're an expert doesn't make you one. You spend a hell of a lot of time trying to convince others that you're the man with the info....and then you make assumptions that I don't train. Perhaps if you spend some time training your brain we could have normal discussion here.

lol....

I think it also makes you a safer lifter. You get a clue that something's not going right. Hopefully you then have the common sense to abort instead of trying to jackass the lift, something I've been guilty of. :(

Sigh..you just called everybody who does a 5x5 lazy. I pointed out you don't know what the hell you are talking about if you believe that....

I've trained around and listened to seminars by NFL and players and athletes who advocate 5 rep lifting. Who would you trust, NFL players or your biased beliefs?

I've trained with Qadry Ismael at my brother's highschool. Guess what rep range he prefers. That is one lazy 4.2 running mofo.

Oh yea, ignored, I'm not one for argueing on the internet. Nice knowing ya, friend.

Sigh...you're a very sensitive guy, and not too clear on comprehension. If you read the post more slowly you would have discovered that I was talking about a "lot of people", not all people. For sure there are 5x5 lifters who work very hard...perhaps you're one of them.

You could have fooled me about not being one to argue on the internet. From what I've seen you're very quick to argue and pretty obnoxious about it too.

I appreciate you putting me on ignore. It'll be great not to hear from you again. :)
