I know some of you ladies have Post-Comp depression but I think I'm having Pre-Comp depression..... :bawling:

I feel like a big bag of loose skin........I feel like I'm losing muscle......I'm tired, sleepy, lethargic, freakin' exhausted!! Fred expects my shoulders to be striated on Wednesday when I see him -- are they?? NO!! I'm not seeing really ANY muscle definition. :(

I've got to book the hotel this week to get the Competitor discount + mail in my entry forms and my glute/ham tie-in looks HORRIBLE!! Ugh!!

And I still don't have fabric samples for my suit!!! AAAAAAAAHhHH!!!

It's all gonna work out for you, you'll see. You just have so many things going on at one time right now and trying to keep them all afloat. Your stressed hun. After the comp take some you time, you deserve it.

I'm sorry you're feeling discouraged girl... :(

I KNOW everyone is different, but I am very curious...per your above statement, I do not understand how your trainer is pinching you at 13% and you are seeing no muscle definition, tie-ins, striations, etc? ..... How is he monitoring your BF? # point, 7? 9? Getting Dunked?

BTW - I loff You, relax, you are working your ass off Jens... and i am VERY proud of you!

I hear ya jen -- every first time competitor goes thru this because you are bringing your body from non-comp to comp for the first time in your life. You aren't just "getting in shape", but going way beyond that to a low bodyfat and fairly extreme dieting. It affects your whole life. And the changes don't come gracefully but rather one part at a time. Plus you're on a schedule however you don't know when each of these changes is going to happen. It is literally a combination of hard, continuous, focused, consistent work and a whole pile of faith because you can't plan anything before your body lets you.

But for the amount of stress that gets piled up while you are in prep, what is the outcome? Its just a show. It doens't make you a good person or a bad person. And there are so many other shows that you can hit it better on. So you just stay focused and have faith. When you are 2 weeks out, then you start seeign all the cool changes! In the mean time focus on practicign walking in the shoes, trainign, cardio, diet, etc. If you are really tired, you might look at some sort of change in what you are doing. You are still 4-5 weeks out and you do have some room to try a healthy carb up or something (work w/ your trainer on that). It soo involves reaching down deep & staying focused. Find that 2nd, 3rd, 4th wind and kick it up again. If it was easy, everyone would do it.

:)

(lol I know it sucks!)

Girl, I went through almost exactly the same thing. The next few weeks are going to be hard, mentally. You'll be thinking you're not ready, your butt doesn't look good, your shoulders aren't developed enough, your abs aren't visible, blah blah blah. Every week, it was something different for me. It will come together, you'll see. Just keep working at it. And don't forget how far you've come already. :)

Talk to your trainer about your concerns. Get your diet tweaked and get your bf checked.

He does a multiple site bf test with calipers -- it's either 7 or 10. I'm running my mouth while he pinches me so I'm not sure how many *pinches* it is... LOL

His goal for me was to see shoulder striations when I see him 7/27....I'm not seeing them.... :worried:

Sassy is correct! In my comp form i'll be flat as hell then before you know it~BAM! I would be swole.
There were times that even i felt like giving up!
Hang in there pretty lady! You can do it!

I'm gonna send you a pm in a bit... Just a few questions...

:)

The loose skin thing too all comes together as well.

I kept asking my trainer when I should see this or that happen and frankly he wouldn't tell me because he couldnt' until I was at a certain point.

There really is no exact answer as to when this or that happens. If it does, great, if it doesn't, guess what - no one is the same as you and as with any of this diet & training stuff - there's is no canned solution. There are general rules of thumb and a lot of dialing in as you learn how your particular body, mind & lifestyle respond.

But the worst thing you can do is let the moment by moment frustrations blur the goal. Its the hardest thing to do, but its the most important thing. The only time any of it matters at all is for that cumulative 10 min or so on stage on that day. Then it doesnt' matter again and you are back on the calendar for whatever is the next thing.

Jen, Pre-contest time is like lots of changes every day... one day you'll look flat, others toned... take into account that even though we are under diet, we are also holding water... which at its due time will be eliminated. You have been doing such a great job, I've been reading your competition log and I think you are very focused. Have you been sleeping well?

Some nights, yes........some, no......last nite was a no! ;)

It happens to me that when I don't get a good sleep I look flat, shapeless, holding tons of water, without any muscle as you say like a "bag of loose skin".

It usually takes two to three days to recover and get back to track considering that I sleep well the following nights... because with the pre-contest diet, training, stress... we need to really get good night sleep.

Hope this helps

I take a scrip sleep med -- just doesn't always work -- especially when you get woken up by a HUGE T-storm in the middle of the night! LOL

Jen you are going through what a lot of people do. Remember you are fucking with your body in a major way that it isn't used to. This causes many of the symptoms you have tired, lethargic, exhausted, etc. also it is hard to see body changes when you see yourself everyday because typically you don't look much different from one day to the next. Whereas people who don't see you daily will notice the change right away. You are also experiencing comp anxiety and wondering why the hell you are doing this. Again this is pretty normal.

Basically this is gut check time. This is where you go ahead and keep up all the hard work and fight for it. Or you can quit which is fine if your heart really isn't into it, just think about how far you have come so far and how much you have wanted this before deciding. Where there's a will there's a way, now just find your way through it. Things have a way of falling into place as long as you have the right outlook on them. Don't let small things become major issues, just brush them aside and keep on trucking.

Cheers,
Scotsman

I'm cheering for you Jens! I talk to my trainer tomorrow. Then I'm putting in a year of getting ready next fall. It's really cool to read your log, and also helps prepare me for what I'm going to be going through!! Just don't think about it... That's what I had to do training for a marathon.. running hours on end. I was like what the heck am I out here in the middle of nowehere running for? I tell you what though, when it's all said and done you will look back and be sooooo proud of your accomplishment. It will only make you want to shoot bigger and better next time around!
You can do it! (insert Tony Little voice)

Do you think it is possible that you are overtraining? I am sure you are going to do just fine. I suffer chronic insomnia and know that when I dont sleep I am so irritable and depressed. Just keep focused sweetie. Your going to make it!

And I thought it was just me. Jens I feel the exactly the same way and I'm 8 weeks out. Some days I feel like throwing it all away and I say to myself there is always next year. But in light of it all having all you galss here has inspired me to battle through head down bum up and go for it.

I know you have ot in you to do the same.

Chin up.... You CAN do it.

Jen...no I haven't been where you are at yet...But remeber you can do anything for a day and tomorrow will be a new day and you can do anything for that 24 hour period that you have to....I know you can do it...look at the big picture not the daily....close your eyes and look at the end...see yourself at the end ....in the show...looking great...keep focused on that picture not the mirror right now....YOU CAN DO IT
