Federal income tax check lost in the mail. Ideas?

i've been to every friggin post office in my city and called the usps help line and none of these people can help me. i recently moved and the lovely mailing system decided it wasn't important to forward my mail. apparently those little cards get ignored. even after talkin to these people, no one can tell me shit. i really WANT/NEED this income tax check. is there someone/place i can call or a website i can hit to see if i can get a new check mailed to me or possibly find the old one???????

First I would visit http://www.irs.gov/individuals/article/0,,id=96596,00.html. There you can check the status of your return by entering some information.

If that is of no help I would be concerned!

If your mail was undeliverable they would have returned it to the sender, in your case the IRS.

I would contact the IRS and let them know your situation. They can best help you. Expect to be on hold fro long periods of time as well as being shuffled from person to person before finally getting somewhere with your problem. Their number is 1-800-829-1040.

If you owed the IRS money in previous years but did not pay they could also be withholding your return.

If your check was mailed to you, never returned to sender by USPS and does not show up as cashed they may issue you a new one after confirming your personal info.

Otherwise you may just be screwed!

I got the federal, but I have been waiting for NJ's return. I did my taxes first week in April. This is the longest it has ever took.

call them, they'll run a search and see if it was cashed. then they'll send you a new one.

Just contact the irs, they'll cancel the check they sent, and send you a new one.
