Fear of (training) commitment

My last month of training has been quite terrible. I always like to try new things and want to keep my training evolving, but its become a joke. Right now, I can't seem to commit to a training program for more than a couple of workouts. This comes on the back of three solid months of training where I didn't have this problem as evidenced by gaining a lot of strength and weight, in my journals.

Obviously I've got a lot on my mind at the moment re: my girlfriend, but I need to start getting down to business properly, once again.

I'm sure there are plenty of people who switch programs weekly, trying the flavour of the month and using whatever excuse they can to escape consistency. When I was consistent I achieved my best ever gains, and I need to do that once more.

So this is a kick in the backside for anybody else that's in my boat. I wasted the past month and I'm not going to waste another day.

I remember a while ago b fold said something along the lines of short-changing your long-term goals by being too focused on the short-term. So right now I'm going to do exactly what I need to do to make myself the best athlete I can possibly be, rather than concentrating on immediate fixes, because I can see myself falling into a trap and then finding its too late to do what I really wanted.

it sounds like you know where your going. find something to get you back into it. find a program and stick to for more than a month. find out what u need and what u want?!? go to a show or a meet to help you get motivated again. use what happened to your girlfriend(i read your other post)as motivation for your training. to make it short....do what your have to do to get to where you need to be, brotha. tb

Zander,

Ive been feeling like that alot latley. You have to takee things as they come. Make time for what feels right and have no regrets. You have a good head on your shoulders and you know whats right. Try not to set all your goals in one day, step by step brotha, step by step!!!!

Well...I've been in ruts before and this is what I did...

I made it a 3 Day Split:

I: Legs
II: Chest/Back
III: Shoulders, Bic, Tric

I'd walk in the gym without a plan and do something different every single day. Supersets, machine, drop sets, 5x5, 3x3, pyramid, WSB, etc...anything. Have fun in the gym for a while.

I always train heavy with compounds, ie: 1-3 rep range, it works for me and keeps working, but when it comes to excessory excersices, I like to keep the reps high 6-8 & I always change what I do every week.

i know it sounds messed up but i would make some crazy full body routine

like

day 1

squats 5x5 or 3x10
military press 5x5
triceps 4x10

day 2
bench press
stiff leg deadlift 1x20
bent rows 5x5

day 3
deadlift 10 singles or 5x5
bicep curls for the ladies
hack squat 5x5

thats like some other routine i used a WHILE ago. i gained like 20lbs...course i was eating alot of food. i think this is cornholios old school

you should try it man! i bet it would spice things up

I've wasted A LOT of time on changing my routine too. The basics are good enough for me now.

I'm a thinker, so I've taken the thought process out of it. Instead of intense planning, formulas and the like, its back to basics.

While I'm going to follow a WSB split and principles, thats the only thing set. Everything else will be decided on the day. I'm going to enjoy myself.

I will do what I feel needs to be done on the day in order to achieve my goals, but its going to be fun again.

like everyone else said, go simple.

I personally like doing a 3 day split, one day for squats and sldl's, another day for pulls and a day for presses. the lifts that you do and sets/reps are up to you.
