fat loss vs weight gain.. help?

hi. new guy here. im a slim guy who just started working out couple weeks ago to get into better shape. i was at 145lbs but wanted lose some fat and gain some muscle to end up at 145lbs but hopefully in better physique. makes sense?

i did change my diet a lot to reduce a lot of carbs and plan meals mostly around protein and shakes. it's helped me lose about 10lbs. i also swim about an hour 2x a week. so good right? im now at around 135lbs.

then i started thinking, am i losing 10lbs of fat? or 10lbs of mass including muscle? i still have more body fat to lose (since those abs arent showing up yet. lol) but i dont know if im doing this right. any suggestions? should i stop swimming (cardio)? do i start eating more carb to gain mass? am i not working out/lifting weights hard enough? how do i lose the fat that i still have yet gain 10 more pounds of muscle. haha i need some direction. thanks guys.

btw, im obviously not a hardcore bber so please try to keep it simple and easy to follow. thank you. and if you need any other info concerning my diet and exercise then let me know.

Interesting thread onepie but with all the details that you have given I certainly want to know what is your specific diet. Like TPAM wants to know.
 
this is what i usually eat daily. of course there are some give and take but i try to stick to this:

morning 7:10am: oatmeal, 1-2 scrambled eggs, whey protein shake

snack 10:00am: yogurt, 1 baked potato

lunch 12:00pm: fish or beef, whey protein shake

snack 3:00pm: some fruit or vegetable or bread, whey protein shake

snack 5:30pm: 1 baked potato or can of beans or can of tuna

dinner 7:30pm: beef or chicken, soup, whey protein shake

before sleep 10:00pm: whey protein shake

i also drink gnc amp mass xxx with some oatmeal mixed in right after i work out every other day (monday,wednesday,friday,saturday at around 6pm)
i do arms on mon, chest and back wed, legs friday, chest and arms again on saturday.
i swim on thursday and sundays usually.

i dont really count calories and stuff although i probably should. i just figure im eating the right stuff. no?
