Fat burning zone

Hello

When doing cardio, I try to stick to these rules:

1) Stay into Fat burning zone (65%)
2) Avoid cardio training zone (85%)
3) Run for at least 45 min
4) keep my hear rate in the burning fat zone by using the sensor grips
5) Run with empty stomach

Does this sound right to you guys?
I realise that this way I burn very little calories.
I also realise I'm the only one using the sensors while running.

Thanks

Sounds like you got it down. I use a Polar heart rate monitor that straps onto my chest b/c I find it annoying to have to hold the handles. I use the elliptical b/c I find myself having to jog painfully slow to avoid the 85% heart rate cardio zone.

All that you said is good, but i also add in about 15 minutes post workout, before my shake, since your body has already begun to tap into fat stores for energy.

I have a Eclipse HR1100R elliptica ($399 at Sports Authourity). I have the resistance set on 8 (out of 1-10). I try to stay around 70% max HR which for me ='s about 135-138 BPM.

you run WHILE holding the sensors?

one of the biggest reasons that people run is because it burns so many calories; pumping your arms is a very large part of that.

I agree.....too many people hold on or HANG (esp. on the stairmaster....) does nothing.............I still cant fathom 65-70%....that is a crawl on a ramped incline

It's easier to go slow on the elliptical than a treadmill. I would rather error on the side of preserving muscle than entering the dreaded muscle/fat burning cardio zone. I use the machine 5 or 6 days a week for between 40-60 minutes per session. I find that my heart works harder when I don't hold onto the handles of the elliptical because I use stabalizing muscles more than if I were holding on.
