Fashion question

I don't wear a suit very often nor will I ever since my profession doesn't warrent one. I however need to dress to a 'T' this friday and am shopping for a new tie today.

I will be wearing a black suit coat with a white shirt and grey pants. Aren't certain color ties supposed to represent different moods and situations or am I just completly overthinking this all? I was thinking light pink to show off my fantastic tan, any thoughts?

Here's a referance picture

I don't like any of those ties personally.

Get a nice Zegna.

Match the coat and the pants bro. Switching it up like that makes it look like you couldn't afford a suit and had to peice something together. Since you already have the black coat, wear black pants. The pink tie will still go with it.

This is what I was going to say. Sounds like a security guard outfit, brother.

Every man should own at least one really nice suit. You don't have to spend 3 g's on a Boss suit. You can get one that looks clean and classy at a decent price.

Ties? Well, it all depends. do you have a color you wear well? If you are wearing a dark suit and not meeting with a VERY buttoned up and conservative company (i.e. IBM), you should try to brighten it up a bit. Yellow, sky blue, nice orange/bronze type of joint.

Great suggestions, yea the reason for the black coat and grey pants IS because I'd be "piecing" things together. Looks like I'll be shopping for black pants today as well. This is for a court appearance if that helps at all, and I do think that a brighter color would look better with my complection.

Lestate, what is this brand of tie you speak of and where might they be found. Keep in mind this is for friday so no internet shopping with such short notice.

It's a court appearance, not a first date. Drop the bright color, it's going to look flashy and that's not going to win you any points with the judge/jury. Go with a basic red tie. It still looks nice without saying "hey look at me".

Oh boy! something I really know about!!!

Okay, I'm a lawyer, and I have actually researched this very issue about what is the best thing for men to wear for court appearances. Whether it is a judge or a jury makes a little bit of difference, but not much.

Before a trial, I always told male clients to wear a black or gray suit, a blue or white shirt and a blue tie. Blue has proven to be the best color by far in front of juries, and people get paid big bucks as jury consultants to figure this stuff out, believe it or not. The tie needs to be conservative. NO JEWELRY other than a wedding ring if you are married and a watch. If it is a rolex, leave it at home! Think conservative, like what a judge or lawyer would wear. Don't wear french cuff shirts that require cuff links. Wear black shoes and socks that are clean and polished.

HTH!
