False Grip

New member
Anyone else in here change there grip from standard grip to a false grip and have good results. I just recently switched mine and I am able to bench without pain for the first time in two years. Any explanations for this development. Thanks.

It's easier with a false grip to keep the bar resting on same plane as your wrist, rather than have it farther up on your hand, and bending your hand backwards. That make sense?

False grip is a good way to dump a lot of weight on to yourself. Also, the tightness through the lats you get from squeezing the bar tight and pulling it apart is gone.

Like liftbig said, you can carry it lower in your palm and still get a good grip on it.

After hearing about the 500+ pounds bouncing off that powerlifter's chest (not once....but 2x!) .......no more false grip for me man.

Are there any PL federation requirements for a "thumbs around" grip? I've been wondering myself. BTW, I sure don't have to worry about bouncing 500lbs off my chest...

yet.

I go back & forth on the grip. no real preference, just asking.

ive seen lots of people using a false grip drop alot of weight on themselves. one guy did it twice in the same meet, with around 600 lbs. i dont see any benifit from a false grip. using it is counter-productive imo.

The grip isnt an issue...

its pec tears and shoulder problems. When I am false grip I don't feel the same shearing or tearing that I do with a standard grip. I know the dangers of this grip I am just wondering why the pain is no longer there. In one workout I went from 135 with pain to 405 triples without.

USAPL requires thumbs around the bar. I'm not sure about other feds though.

its psychlogical. there is no difference that can be made by 2 thumbs.

but there is a reason why the false grip is nicknamed the "suicide grip".

but what makes you so sure about the grip not changing the lift.

a working understanding of biomechanics.

if you had no hands.....you still push up. if you had no thumbs...you still push up. with thumbs around the bar...you...still.. push....up.
