false advertising/accidental price!?

does anyone know any laws about this kinda thing??? i always hear stories about people gaining the benefits on this kinda crap but, i'm curious to know the limitations. a buddy of mine found a car advertised in the paper for 10k it was a new (at the time) 02 camaro it was suppose to be listed as 36k. his dad called the false advertising card and threatened to sue and they walked away with it for the 10k. i know it doesn't always work but in a situation like that is it in your favor to "win" cause its their fuck up?

i don't know the law, but when i was first married my new inlaws took me shopping for china. the one i wanted was cheaper than all the rest and we found out it was mis-labeled. the price was less than what they paid, but they sold it to us at that price anyway.

You could try. But if it's simply a mistake, they have no legality to sell it to you. Then again, it never hurts to try - at min. u can get a discount (then person responsible gets fired owww).

No real laws

I've mislabeled merchandise and changed right in front of the customer
like "Oh that's went up 7%, charlie never changed the price"

i was just curious because a house has been marked at 158k in the paper for about a week now with no retractions of the price. remax website has it priced at 258k... i've called the realtor twice already and left a message cause he doesn't answer inquiring about the price... i've been getting fucked over left and right for a while now so it would be nice to get some good karma and "win" something. but a house is highly doubtful i suppose

it definitely does NOT pertain to houses. they can raise or lower their price at will.

Advertising a price does NOT equal entering a binding sales agreement.

Deliberate false advertising would be an offense in most places.

Supermarkets here are required to sell at least on item for the shelf price though. IE, go to the checkout with 5 cans of tuna, shelf price says $2.95, scanner reads it at $3.95, you get the first one at the lower price.

b0und (yes I eat tuna)

no, they're not.

99% of the time the ad dept of the newspaper is doing the ads for the business. I know they occasionally make mistakes in my ad that don't get caught in time.

Usually there is a disclaimer in the fine print saying "we're not responsible for typo's" or something along those lines.

158 vs. 258 looks like a typo, which I personally feel is confirmed by the fact the realtor won't return your call. They're salesmen, normally they're all over a potential sale, particularly in this market.

got a call yesterday from him and he said it was a typo but ending up selling it for 175... long story short the BBB was backing whoever wanted to buy it since it went a week without a retraction of the price. according to him it was a make a offer and go from there type "forced" thing. doesn't make sense at all... if i was a realtor and i was gonna get fucked out of 80k, i'd flat out say no deal and move on.
