does anyone own one? i just got a new big place and the only thing it's missing is a fireplace. i want one. is the electric substitute a substitute or just a real fire waiting to happen?

Be sure to over size it abit. Make sure you have the heating output. Newer models are much better now as was said. Older gas ones were the worst, most of the heat went directly out the vent stack. With electric you know you are useing 100% of the heat imput for output.

I have one in a tv stand, 6' wide with the fireplace in the middle... we put a granite top on it and the tv sits there, works great, and you can have it on with or without heat..
