ExxonMobil CEO defends profits

Please, America was built by crushing the poor for the free market and most Americans can't identify with the poor...the poorest American has a better life than 99% of the world's population. Every time there is a call for reparations I'm fine with it, I'm for buying them a one way ticket back to Africa. Where would they rather live? Just sayin'.
Most Americans that I've talked with (albeit not a great sample size <50 and >100) don't have that perspective and can identify with the poor because they're scared of becoming them.

Although poor people's lives are better then most outside of North America, they don't see outside North America. They only see what is around them and around them where they are the lowest and the neediest.

I'm not sure what the Africa comment has to do with anything.

The Africa comment is relevant because minorities are always calling the US racist but they sure as hell don't want to go back to their homeland where there is no discrimination. IMO, it boils down to lazy people, of all nationalities, that don't want to accept personal responsibility.

Okay, I didn't realize that all minorities come from Africa.

Are you saying that all poor people are lazy? Have you spent any time with them to understand why they are lazy or why they're in that predicament?

I grew up lower middle class thanks to father's intelligence and industrious spirit, otherwise we would have been poor as dirt. Most poor people in the US are white...just sayin' and yes, most poor people are poor because they didn't apply themselves properly. I graduated from a high school that had the lowest per capita funding in Ohio and I not only graduated from college and law school but I'm working on my next advanced degree. Most poor people are poor for a reason....

Exactly when did making a profit become a bad thing?

Know who's got some explaining to do? That fucker Michael Phelps. We need to haul his ass to capital hill and make him explain his extraordinary number of medals. That son of a bitch needs a windfall tax whereby we confiscate at least half of his medals and give them to people who didn't even make it to the finals in swimming.

I agree

I understand businesses have some responsibility to society( like tobacco companies preying on uneducated ) but I hate it when profits mean you are screwing society.
Like Exxon is to blame for assholes driving huge SUV's or Trucks to the corner grocery for a soda. For that matter gas could be 30 bucks a gallon and I wouldn't be mad at them. If you don't like oil companies profits then ride a damn bike, I do.

Is there anything wrong with companies making profit? hell no. When that happens, who benefits? Shareholders, who can be anyone (with money already of course).

But as a society we never allow the common man to get cheated. We've shut down scam artists, snake oil salesmen, run them out of town. ExxonMobil is doing what they do legit and legally, but their profits are so high its costing people backlash. People hate that gas prices are impacting their quality of life, while others are making larger than ever profits from what they see as their personal pain and sacrifice.

Not their problem.

So, now I understand why you're bitter.

My experience is different then yours. Most (but not all) of the poor that I've dealt with were either dealt a harder set of cards then you and had some other items to deal with (mental retardation, raped by father, no education in the third world, etc). Sure, there are people who continued to thrive despite these additional factors, but others don't. Given the rates that I've seen, I see those now as the exception rather then the rule.

I can understand if you were lower middle class and had a sense that all welfare mothers are sluts who are cheating the system. But you and I both know that isn't quite true and there are no absolutes.

That's just like saying that all rich people are taking advantage of the system.

All that said, I do know of some welfare sluts who are cheating the system; but again, I find them to be the exception rather then the rule.

It is.

For some reason, the CEO felt the need to defend their profits. If he didn't feel the need, then it truly wouldn't be their problem.
