Exercise for lats

Powerlifting gurus always say the best lat exercises are in the same plane as the bench. I hung two heavy bands at the top of my power rack on either side and put my bar into it. Then I set up on my bench like I was doing a bench press. Then I grabbed the bar and pulled it to my stomach for 4 sets of 20. I had to explode at the beginning in order to pull the bar all the way down.

I'm sure someone has already thought of this, but it was new to me. My lats got a great workout.

excellent work. i have done these before, when i need a break from heavy lat training. those and pulldowns i use for a break.

those are a great exercise mike.

but i prefer to do 2 lat exercises per upper body day. the first is either a pull up or a pull down. then a row. by the time i get to the row my lats are prehausted and this has really helped my stablility.

I started doing 2 lat workouts on upper day too. I really want to get my pullups up..they suck right now.

They don't really beat you up like barbell rows, but you get a nice "burn"... :). I was feeling a little beat up, so they worked perfect today.

VERY cool idea man...seriously.

I need to try these...

You'll have to experiment to find out how much band tension to use. I first tried the light bands - they were way too easy. Then I put on the lights and the heavies - I couldn't get the bar to my stomach. Then I just used the heavy bands.

I was just thinking that if you used TO much tension, you might have to tie yourself to the bench.:D
