Everyone over 40 check in please!

Hello my geritol drinking brothers. :coffee: I turned 43 in May. I did my first cycle in 1984 and did a few more right after that and then stepped away from it for a while until my mid-thirties. I was married for the first time 2 years ago to my then 23 year old wife. I am feeling good, I am in superb condition, and I am loving this part of my life. Good to have a board like this.

I'm glad you popped in and hope you continue to do so. Aging is an interesting process and even though we like to believe we get better with age, we also know that age has it's own challenges. This is a good place to talk about them and continue getting better.

I`ll be 48 this coming October. Been at it consistently since 1982. All natural. Never did any AAS. Not many changes to my workouts except my muscular endurance is not what it used to be so my workouts now are short and intense. I workout every other day. Still doing all the big daddy lifts. I don`t do 1 reps maxes anymore either. Haven`t done ORM`s in about 10 years. Whats the point. I don`t squat with 300 or dead with 400 anymore either. Too tought on my joints. About the highest I go with squats is 250/275 for reps and 350 on deads for reps. What amazes me is that I can still do dips and bottom out at every rep. Recuping from a workout takes a lil longer these days. Avatar pic was taken 4 months ago.

So this is where us old farts go now eh !!!

count me in :)

Woo hoo! Welcome Dave! I guess I'm stubborn, in that I haven't given up lifting big yet. Although, my joints are starting to talk to me now, so that may change in the near future.

Stubborn or perhaps we`re foolish, lol :)

I dunno..... I just don`t feel right doing isolation moves. I would rather bust my hump doing compounds. Yeah.... I can relate with the joints feeling stressed, which is why I backed off accordingly on some of my poundages. I reached my natural genetic potential over a decade ago and I am not gonna get any bigger so why kill myself and trash my joints !!! I have been there and done that with the super heavy poundages. Its the younger studs turn now.

I just started to try something new. Super sets with opposing muscle groups. I have supersetted same muscle groups before but never opposing groups. EX: Chest / Back: I do a set of incline benches and superset with bent over barbell rows. Dips superset with chins. Pec dumbell flys and super set with bent over lateral raises. Bi`s / Tri`s: dumbell skull crushers supersetted with hammer curls. It feels great. I like it a lot. I get very intense workouts without using joint trashing poundages and the pumps are incredible and the workouts go fast. You defintely walk away from your workout with a feeling of accomplishment. Its a change of pace. I like to throw a wrench into my workouts every so often and I like this particular wrench.

Next I am gonna start 20 rep super curls. Same as super squats only torching the arms. Use a weight that I can only get 10 reps with and force out 20 reps. Who knows..... maybe my arms will get as big as my legs. Or maybe my arms will fall off ...or maybe I am a stubborn old fool who thinks his arms will get bigger. :):)

Pump on .....
